K1000 recable

I would like recable my AKG K1000. what is the best cable? Apuresound? What are the timbric differences with the original cable?

I'd only replace the cable if it failed.

Recabling the K-1000 is difficult and you have no recourse if you destroy a driver. AKG no longer stocks or repairs the K-1000. Accidentally destroying a driver means that you would have to buy another pair.

That's actually false information. The K1000 drivers are still available along with most every other part.

As for recabling them I suggest either you find a professional or have a very very good understanding of what you are doing before you attempt to recable them yourself.

i have a pair that was recabled by alex [AK]Zip...excellent work, you can't go wrong. alex above isn't telling you that so to gain your business...work on the k1000 is a lot harder than most other headphones.

the k1k stock cable sounds like crap, imo. i had mine recabled with mogami microphone cable & it too was crap, imo. i found some used stefan audioart equinox & had my k1k recabled again & never looked back. i have never heard apuresound so i can not comment. i would like to hear A/B comparisons of the two.

It's so great to put a face to the name now.

I had an 8 foot Equinox in my hands that came with my K1000, but I ended up trading it away towards partial payment on a O2 Mk1 and didn't re-cable them yet. I really need to do that next, before the HD800, HF-2 or ESW10JPN. APS is where I plan to send them, but that Equinox really improved my old HP-1000 after Blutarsky had it installed on those (we get each others left overs).

I will be comparing two "4-pin to dual 3-pin XLR" adapters, one with Mogami microphone cable and one with APS V3 cable sometime soon, so I'll try to remember to let you know what I hear. I am hoping with such a short length that the Mogami wont hurt the sound. Can you say if the Mogami was no better than stock, or better but not good enough?

the mogami was maybe better than stock but very dull. you may prefer canare star quad over mogami.

stephan artaudio cables are excellent.Big improvement with solidstate amplification.K1000 love tubes ,but with these cables solidstate amps sound excellent as well.
