The Grado HF2--It's For Real - Page 116

Mine have spent most of their time connected to the Headroom Micro Ultra stack. I should be getting them back with balanced connections this week so I can try them on the M^3 but I really do like them with the Headroom gear.

For those with them already. Can we get a AMP list? I think HPA is using an EF2 or similar.

Grawk is using a Duet for Mac.

Anyone else willing to say which AMPS and if any are going AMPless?
there's already a thread in the amp section that's about hf2/amp pairings...

lol, I'm an idiot.
I asked Todd if specific serials could be requested if they were not already taken. His reply was you get the next unallocated one, in the order the order was recieved. Hope you're lucky though. Have you heard back from Todd?

I requested the # in the comments section of the order, but never got any email from him about it.

So he said that he wasn't doing serial # requests? I should probably get mine in the first batch then.

I'm using the Luxman P-1 and the flat pads right now. I've gone back and forth between bowls and flats, and am definitely preferring flats for now. Admittedly, the flats are maybe a bit less precise, but the trade-off is a body that is RS-like, and, well, almost irresistible to me for now (relative to the bowls). You know how this goes, though: I'll give the bowls another shot soon--but not today.

System at the moment: Macbook Pro 17"-->optical-->Style Audio Topaz (as DAC)-->Cardas Golden Reference-->Luxman P-1-->Grado HF2

I also ordered right after the announcement requesting a serial number. Todd replied back that he was not reserving and is shipping them in the order they were placed.

i have 2 questions.
1.the only grado i liked is GS1000,hated RS-1,so are they close in sound to RS-1 or GS-1000?
2.considering the price which is about 2X K702 or 1.5 HD650 or DT880,can anyone compare them to non Grado headphones, for example the headphones mentioned above?do you feel they are a good value?

So it used SR80 drivers, but they're upgraded?

No. There is has been and probably never will be any information released on the actual drivers. Many think that they are new specially for the HF-2 but no one knows other than John Grado, and it will probably stay that way.

The comments about the SR-80 drivers were jokes. They are joking about another poster a while back. You can read the whole thread if you want to know what the conversation was about. Suffice it to say that the SR80 drivers have nothing to do with the HF2.

Unless, of course, they do.

True. If that is the case I am sure that no one will ever know for sure. The grado assassins will keep people quiet.

That would imply that SR-80 drivers are different from the others. What about the rumor that the SR-80 is just a SR-60 with bowls?

It's all clever marketing strategy with a touch of psychology. Same drivers in all Grado cans from SR60's through PS1000s, it's just that the more one spends, the more apt one is going to think that they hear differences and improvement to justify the added cost.
