MB Quart QP 805 HS - Page 3

Thanks weissglut.

I have the GMP 8.300 D, which is 300 ohm.

I think the sound signature of the GMP 8.300 is different from the old QP805. The specs are different as well.

And yes, damping material and ear pads makes a big difference in sound.

The Beyer leather pads were great on the 8.300, besides adding a slight nasal sound, which became irritating after a while.

And they muffled the treble a bit.

I had the 8.300 for about a week, too. See here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/406658/the-german-maestro-gmp-8-35-d-monitor-in-the-studio-serious-about-audio-indeed/330#post_7934107

According to what I've written there and what I can remember the 8.300 is much more similiar to the H 805 than the 8.35. And yes: the Beyer leather pads are much better on the 805 than on the 8.35 ;)

PS: mine is called H 805. No idea if it is the same like QP 805.

Okay, thanks again.

I'm a bit confused because some describe the 805 as being dark.

I find my 8.300 rather bright. Mainly because of the slightly forward mids.

As for the H805, according to this http://www.hai-nl.com/pdf/MBQ_2008_1.pdf, the H805 is for voices/ speak and the QP805 for PA etc. Impedance is different.

This does say something about their purpose, nothing about sound differences.

If used with the oval pleather pads of the 8.35D someone may say the 805 sounds dark because it is really mid toned then. The highs are very laid back. Though the default pads on the 805 look like the ones on the 8.300D.

I think with the Beyer genuine leather pads it doesn't sound dark at all. Mids and highs sound great.

After some listening with the 805 I think at least the mids are better than with the 8.35D. I wish I still had the 8.300D to give it another try rolleyes.gif

Well, I guess this impression really was true. I've just played a bit with an software equalizer and added a bit bass to the 805 with leather pads and this seems to be a really balanced sound now.

PS: H 805 vs. QP 805:

Both pictures advertise a QP 805 while the second one actually shows a H 805 confused.gif The QP 805 is rated 300 Ohms there while my H 805 has 100 Ohm printed on the housing.

Where did you buy the Beyerdynamic DT770 genuine leather pads, those with the vented holes at the back?

I really would like to have a new pair.

All I can find now are the Beyer leather pads for aviation headphones.

I've bought directly from Beyer Germany:

http://www.beyerdynamic.de/shop/hah/ersatzteile/ohrmuschelsatz-2970.html

They don't have holes in the back, but they are listed under DT 770:

Thanks. I didn't know they exist.

The 50,90 price, plus 21,- shippingcosts,  seems a bit hefty to me though frown.gif

I wonder how much they differ from the Beyerdynamic ear seals, black leather EDT 300 LS, which are 32,- Euro

I can't tell if they are different. They have another order number in the Beyer shop, but the same price 50,90 €). I wouldn't be surprised if the actually are the same.

PS: I'd like to try the gel ear pads :)

I can buy the EDT 300 LS pads at that pilot shop for 38,- Euro confused_face_2.gif

Well, give it a try biggrin.gif IMHO 51 € is way overpriced, even for genuine leather pads. But I never had any and wanted to test them.
