Hi,
Has anybody tried the Luxman P-200?
I am also curious. I think the difficult and uncertain economic conditions have slowed our fellow members purchasing of new equipment.

I've been meaning to drop by the local Stax dealer (who also does Luxman and Esoteric) with my HD-600's in hand to try it out, but haven't gotten around to it.

When you get around to it, please post your impressions.

If you go to Todd The Vinyl Junkie website he has a little snippet about the sound in comparison to the P-1.

I have played around with one of these briefly. As usual, the conditions were not good so commenting on the sound signature would have little value and I was much more interested in the other amps sitting next to it; SPL Phonitor, SPL Auditor, P-1. It is certainly a nice looking amp, but a bit underwhelming overall. It just does not look like or feel like a statement product like the P-1 which is built like a tank and oozes high end kit. The P-200 build and appearance just seems more like mid-level gear. Of course, the sonics matter most and there is just no way to get a good audition under the conditions at this place.

Very few Japanese web-shops are carrying the P-1 now, and I wonder if it is being discontinued. I hope there will be another high-end model to take it's place if so.

Sorry that I cannot be more helpful...

From what I understand the P-1 is discontinued (per Todd TTJV). The P-200 will be at CanJam and available for audition at Todd's room, and I will give a listen certainly. With both the HD-800 and HF-2 if time permits.

It's a simpler circuit (single-ended vs. balanced inputs) but being a "lesser" model the build quality of the new Luxman line is still present.

Have a great time at CanJam and please take the time to let us unfortunates who cannot attend know what you think of the Luxman and other components which you find to be really good.

Yep, and I have to say it was my favorite amp for powering the Senn 800s. It had a great, fast sound that I kept coming back to over and over again.

It was a very good match with HD800 and all other cans I threw at it...

I heard it and the P1 at CanJam. I can say there was a noticible difference between the two. I was stronly considering it before I went but was a little underwhelmed by it. I think it sounded better with the HD800s than my L3000s, but since I didn't care for the HD800s I don't think I'll be getting this amp. Interestingly, Todd of TTVJ said the P1 is going to be coming back out in the fall.
