HeadAmp Pico Slim Portable Amplifier - Page 60

Justin, if possible I'd still like to see RMAA data for the amp driving a low impedance load before I buy it. I appreciate you posting the measurements for your products; it's more than we get from most other manufacturers.

Hi, this is my first post (been lurking around for a long time) and I would like to say that I been a admirer of Justin's work for quite a well and that Headamp products has always been top notch .

I love the original Pico but did not get it due to its battery life which is too short as it would require me to charge it every alternate day or so. I also hesitant about getting the slim as I do enjoy having a portable DAC with me should I need it and the back input does not work well for my setup to carry around in my pocket.

Hopefully, a pico slim with DAC in a single casing will be in the works after the pico slim is complete and all the orders filled or an upgrade to the original pico will finally make me buy one after "lusting" over it for some time.

As previously stated, there's absolutely no amp/DAC Slim combo in the pipeline. Just not enough space in there for a DAC of suitable pedigree, I suppose. Sorry, dude!

That said, I'm also a big fan of Justin's work. Loved my Pico amp so much that I went out and tracked down a GLite within a couple weeks of hearing it's little sibling.

Will the Pico Slim without DAC sound better than the Pico with DAC, or is it all about portability?
Probably less good. Justin has said that the regular Pico will remain the most powerful portable mini-amp in its class. But clearly not the most portable.

I wouldn't rush to say that.

From impressions in this thread it would seem that the Slim might be better but also slightly different so I don't think there is a clear answer. Also it might depend on your phones as the Slim is supposedly geared towards iems although that does not mean that it can only be used with iems to sound good

Alright... I will revise my above comment here: It is reasonable to expect that the Pico Slim will sound slightly less "good" with full-size headphones of moderate to high impedance compared to IEM's when stacked up against the more powerful, standard-sized Pico. Of course one can't be sure at this stage, and I am biased due to me liking the regular Pico amp as much as I did. It's pretty hard to imagine a portable amp sounding better, based on my limited experience.

it is reasonable to expect that the pico slim will have a better volume control, but less voltage swing. The pico will continue to have higher voltage swing, but is limited by the analog potentiometer.

Sorry, perhaps I misrepresented what I meant in my post. What I meant was not create a Pico Slim with DAC but more of creating or updating the Pico using the pico slim amp compoentents like the improved battery, volume control, smaller size etc while maintaining the DAC which is already top class... ala Pico 2.0 version.

That would be awesome. So far, skimming this thread, I haven't heard anything...

Perhaps Justin will tell us more.
so, justin...are you going to make your november deadline for pre-orders?
The Pico Slim is getting closer and closer to being ready to go, and i'm getting lower and lower on funds...

i guess I'm gonna have to make a **need money for Pico Slim** sign soon.

The pre-order will begin very soon, I am just waiting for some pictures.

Also, I'll be sending samples out to several people very soon who have already said they would be early adopters of the Pico Slim, so maybe they'll post some impressions later.

Here is the deal for the pre-orders:

- Black or silver enclosures

- There is no limit to the # of Pico Slims that will be available at pre-order price, however the first production run is 250 Pico Slims, so if the # ordered happens to exceed that, you may have to wait until more can be built.

- This will include the Pico Slim amp, DC Adapter, and custom leather case which is being worked on. If the leather case doesn't work out it will be a leather bag.

- The DC Adapter has interchangeable mains plugs. We'll have plugs for North America/Japan, UK, Europe, Australia, China, and Korea. You get 1 plug most suited for your region, extra plugs are $5 each.

- 3 foot Amphenol Micro-USB cables are available for $10 for USB charging. Remember these are NOT the Mini-B cables that you probably already have. The Micro-USB is a newer, much better connector that is the standard now & in the future.

The pre-order special:

- The pre-order pricing will be $349 with a regular price of $399 after that, plus shipping costs.

- To sweeten the deal even more, the first 100 Pico Slims will be unlike the rest. They will have a lifetime warranty AND lifetime free batteries. I don't think anyone has ever made that offer. This special status will also be permanently laser engraved on each of the first 100 Pico Slims.

- After the first 100 the standard 3 year warranty will apply, and you'll still get the pre-order special price.

Please no requests for pre-orders yet. When the time comes, I will make a new thread here exclusively for pre-orders and this thread will close.
