Please correct me if I am wrong, but AFAIK it's not available yet either.

Neither was the production version and it was at a meet with a couple hundred people milling about. What do you expect?

Didn't expect anything. Just asking.

It's in confirmed preorder at this point with 250 units shipping in the next month.

A little ahead of "maybe by December."

I have one more question about the Slim...how easy is the volume knob to rotate? I don't want it to be able to turn by rubbing against the inside of my pocket, etc. I'm a pretty active guy and this will be strictly portable, nothing but 100% pocket time

I'd rather wait for the Pico Slim than waste money on another amp just because I'm in "dire need" of an amp and have a chance to "not have enough money", if I were you. Especially since Headamp products are harder to get a hold of.

^ I know you don't like RSA products, Zephyr, so thanks for your opinion, but I'm going to look elsewhere until details about the Slim actually firm up and a preorder seems more likely.

I was planning to order a Shadow at first too, and then more details about the Slim were released, and I changed my mind right before the pricing information was given and the pre-orders started for the Shadow. I believe the Slim will be superior to the Shadow, so I'm waiting. I can live with my E4c straight from my iPod until the Slim is released, and when I do get the Slim I'm sure it'll have been worth the wait

You are correct and if you want what will likely be an inferior product now or the superior product before the end of the year, then go for the Shadow. Having heard, and now seen both, the choice of the Slim is clear and worth the wait, imo.

Well, given likely resale value on the Shadow, I have the option of selling it when the slim firms up. But without even knowing a price on the slim, I'm going to have to hold off. I don't even know if it'll be in my budget at this point. Too little information to wait for an indefinite time.

Agreed. I don't always practice what I preach in this regard, but with the Shadow and Slim hitting the market at roughly the same time, I say buy both and sell the one you end up liking less. I know its not always possible if you don't have the disposable income, but it's really the only way to determine with any certainty which amp you prefer with your gear. And while both the Shadow and Slim are hot new items, resale value will be high. It will cost you a little, but I think it's worth it if you want to experience both amps and decide which is best for you. The only problem is . . . you may decide you want to keep both! Then the only loser is your wallet.

Justin wrote this somewhere on this thread that the Slim price will be in line with his other portable amps ($350?).

I would say it sounds a little warmer than the original Pico, but I am focusing on the experience of using this amp with IEMs and other sensitive headphones.

I think you are correct! to me..at the end of the day, SQ is the most important thing for amplifiers.. it doesn't matter whether a knob is being used, or how small it can be.. as long as it is small enough for me to put into a pocket, and it produces the sound that i like..i am fine with it..and end up i will be selling the one i like less..

I don't like them with good reason.

And I agree with tyrion. I'd rather wait for the more superior product from a company which amp designs are of quality and reliability. Another reason why I don't like RSA products.

Resale shmesale value. When (Not an if) the Pico Slim gets its reviews out on Head-fi for what it does, I doubt the Shadow would have any resale value above half its RRP! That's something you have to consider when you have two products, aiming for the same crowd, aiming to do the same thing, but with one being superior to the other.

Here is an image that shows the final size and shape of the Pico Slim. This is not the finished amp. Only the top half of the enclosure was polished & anodized, and the laser engraving on the beveled edge was tested. This came out really nice because you can read the labels from either the top or the front. Ignore the markings, I didn't tell the engraver which holes were the input, output, and power switch. The fluted knob has also been added. The finished dimensions are .37x1.55x3.15"

The enclosure is opened simply by removing 4 screws from the bottom. The battery sits right on top. Easiest battery to replace of any portable with an internal lithium battery.
