I bought a thing called a MOCKS from Tesco, like a mobile phone sock but really soft and fluffy for about £3, I'd get one for each, willykatie

Hmmm, 95p on amazon:

I really loved the dedicated play/pause, skip/next buttons and volume switch. This really wins my heart.
Hi bakhtiar

I know Ihatepopupads is using the PFE too, and needs to use the Dynamic Normalizer to give them an extra 'boost' on some recordings. No idea what volume he listens to though.

Did you listen to the demo stuff? I was much more impressed when I got my own music on there, so wait till you get your replacement and put your own stuff on there, and then if you don't like it, you can hopefully return or sell it

Yep, just listened to the demo stuff...I suspect this stuff is in the lowest bitrate possible, so i still have high hopes!!!

It's not low bitrate, it's 256kbps!

Maybe it's the quality of the recordings or something, but my stuff sounds a lot better than the demo tracks.

I see!

Is it possible for the X to show what bit rate the file is playing at?

Click the icon on the right at the bottom of the screen, with the + sign, and scroll down to 'detailed information'.

I deleted the tracks but backed them up, that's how I know they're 256kbps.

Hi PoE...

Bad news re the condition of your unit (that brings up a whole new can of worms... can you scratch glass??) - Fingers crossed Amazon swap it out nice and quickly...

Re the SQ - You're liking the Cowon with the JVCs you say... What was wrong with the sound of the Sony in your opinion... Where it is apparently a refurb / return, there is an outside chance that it is a dud unit... but, its worthy of an investigation nonetheless...

I have no idea if one Cowon sounds like another, and I only have the D2, but - if you can pinpoint what you are not happy with, and I will see if I can replicate it...

Glad you're liking the FX500 though

Hi Duncan,

Well that is a good question indeed. The scratch was a fine hairline scratch. Is the screen actually glass? To me it felt like plastic.

I did not transfer any music over for obvious reasons. But the tracks on the X sounded a bit dull...Slightly underwhelming and congested...If that makes sense.

The FX are superb. Loving them.

Well the little Cowon seems more punchier and dare i say alive!

Now, im going to reserve judgement until i transfer my library across to the X.
I have high hopes for it.

You may have posted / advised before PoE, yet I am intruiged...

What kind of music are you in to?

...Glad you're liking the recommendation for the FX

Hmmm in into all sorts...
But breifly... Art Blakely, Charles Mingus, Frank Zappa, World Music, Isaac Hayes, John Lee Hooker, Jimi Hendrix, Mos Def, Nas, Pink Floyd, Santana, The Doors etc...

The FX are just different, unique...I like the individuality :-)

Sooz.

The Easyi case turned up this morning, it's fine. Cutout's for all the buttons including the reset pin. Not the best quality in the world, feels a bit like plastic vinyl but it does the job.

Oh and my headphone jack doesn't seem to wobble at all....

Not bad, but seem something is losing.

2) no EQ, DSEE: On, Clear Bass: 1-3
Oooo... Good powerfull bass. No distortion and exaggeration.

3) Overall sound. One word: Dark. The bass was great, powerful and clean. The highs were clear but still need a little bit more extension. But, the mids/vocals were seem to be quite laid back. Anyhow, it was still better than lower end Sony NWZ series. A owner of the X1000 had pointed that, X1000 will sound better after 75 hours burn-in. How do others find this?

It is really good DAP, and if the price is much more cheaper, definitely I will buy it.. But for now, I still love my iBasso D10 + laptop/netbook combos ...

Thank you
Wow dark? this thing makes my treble happy D2+ seem downright dull. Maybe it was the songs, this dap has some of the best treble I've heard. I rarely push the volume past 23 with my pfe, unless it's an older recording then I turn on the dynamic equalizer to get some more juice. Maybe there is some burn in involved?

Santana before 'Supernatural' or after? Or both?

Clearly before Supernatural!

I was in my Local Comet electrical store today and had the chance to get a feel and hold of the Sony X1000 Walkman. I must say this is one sexy Walkman. The feel is so solid and it has a glossy stone feel to it almost like holding a block of quartz. Unfortunately, i didn't try the SQ out as I didn't have any phones with me.

If this beauty sounds like posters have said it sounds then I think I will buy this with my hard earned cash that I have saved up.
