I'm assuming you are using itunes to transfer your stuff over?
Don't convert to wma lossless, the X doesn't support it, it only supports regular wma files.

Album art is showing up beautifully on mine at 500 x 500.

cn11 - Poppy got stung for a lot more because he had to have a John Lewis one and a low serial number

WMA Lossless? - For the X1000? It doesn't support it (unless I really read the instructions wrongly, in which case I apologise - yet I swear for WMA, the max supported bitrate is 192kbps...)

This is silly!!!
What does it support then!??
Looks like it will have to be wav then... :-/

Duncan, the bitrate you're referring to (I think), is if you use the Sony software to rip the CDs in the first place. My wma files on the X are all over 300kbps and I've never used the Sony software to rip a CD.

PrinceOfEgypt - you can convert to wma vbr at the highest quality setting, or AAC and the other supported formats via dBpoweramp. You're just looking to convert your lossless files for the Sony, is that right? If you're ripping them again, you can choose your own settings so long as you don't use the Sony software, because the maximum supported bitrates are poor.

Silly question - Can i add my own album artwork via itunes?

Hi soozieq, well i already ripped everthing to FLAC on my hard drive. So now im converting from FLAC to WMA Lossless using dbpoweramp.

Can anybody confirm if the X supports WMA lossless?

Many thanks for all the help and great info :-)

EDIT: Seems if you import a folder containing wma lossless into itunes it converts it to aac!!!

I give up!

It doesn't support WMA lossless, or indeed any other compressed lossless codec (flac, alac, ape). The Japanese version however does support atrac lossless.

So, if I use wma VBR at ~320kps, will the X do gapless?
Hi, First post woohoo. Looking to buy the X in the next day or so, trying to decide which will get it to me quicker, Play or Amazon.
Anyone tried this with it yet:
Sony VRC-NW10 Video Recording Cradle: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

To charge it and record from a Bravia TV. I'm wondering if I could hook this up to my AV amp and use it for recording from the Bravia, and also for playing music through the AV system? Any ideas???

Also the reviews are beginning to sound like the X is better than the 739. My wife has offered to pay half towards the X, so would you say it's worth £115 of my hard earned cash??
Thanks

Right...It seems that WAV files do not support tagging...So cannot support album art? Is this the case?

So the Sony does support WAV but then i cannot have album art...!!!

Essentially i'd like the best sound quality possible and have album art. Currently all my music is in flac...

What would you do!??

EDIT: Can i use something else other than itunes to copy my music to the X?

Hi again

Don't give up! You definitely cannot use wma lossless on the X, or any other Sony daps as far as I know.

I convert from lossless to wma using this setting in dBpoweramp -

And I have album art on my WAV files on my other Sony daps, but I haven't got round to transferring the rest of my music onto the X yet, but there's no reason why it should be any different.

Duncan - my phones were due to arrive between 9 and 5, and they arrived at 5 - I'm about to open them and have a play, I mean, a listen!

Thanks Soozieq, so that means i have to use windows media player to transfer?

Also what about the sound quality compared to mp3 (lame -0) or AAC (400kbps)

Many thanks!

Not necessarily. You can also drag & drop or use other freeware music management softwares like MediaMonkey.

I suggest encoding a couple of favourite tracks with different codecs/bitrates and listen for yourself which is the most transparent.

You can transfer using Windows Explorer if you want, that's what I've been doing. If you're converting from lossless, then create another folder in your music folder called 'lossy' for example - and then point dBpoweramp at that folder when you convert so that the lossy and lossless stay separate. Then you can simply drag and drop straight from the lossy folder to the X. But make sure your tags are correct and that your album art is there before transferring, because you can't edit anything once it's on the Sony. Well, I can't anyway, I have to delete from the Sony, correct the tags, and then transfer back again

And as for what sounds best, I agree with walkingman, convert a few tracks into different formats and then see if you prefer one over the other. All my lossy music is a mix of high-bitrate wma vbr, AAC and mp3 and I can't tell the difference between any of them because I don't listen out for it, and they all sound good!

Thanks Soozieq... :-)

Just wish Sony would support a true lossless format...I wonder why they don't?
