Well if this Sony is better straight from its headphone out than my 829/Mustang combo (I know I'm not getting the most from the Mustang this way, but I'm still getting about a 10% gain over the Sony alone, with improvements in treble refinement, soundstage, and bass depth/control) with my Ultrasones (which are a massive gain in all around sonic landscape over my IE8's), then I'll be a very very happy camper. Because isn't sonic improvement the main reason we're all part of this obsessed community anyway?

Sonic improvement be damned, it's small and it's shiny

I'm going to keep mine in the dark... it'll like it there, where it won't feel so glittery...

Seeing that I have had not one reply on my FS thread for the D2, I think I may sacrificially burn it, infront of the X1000 to pay homage to the S-Master Gods that've made such a truly kick-ass player...

It's made by little elf geeks, over in the Sony HQ, with taped up glasses and such. Those are the Gods of which you speak.

LOL!!! No one wants your D2?? That's tragic, and yet also hysterically funny, no, it really is

Hey, maybe you could throw in a pair of free silicon tips and double the interest in it???

Soozieq...

I guess, seeing the amendment to your signature that the question is... smile - or scowl?

I just amended it again, they shipped! To scowl or not to scowl... hmm, ask me tomorrow

To be honest, I can't stop smiling. First the Sony, and now even more new earphones to try with it - what's not to smile about

Another day, another train journey and this combination has still not disappointed me at all, only the Zune has lasted this long before this on my happiness radar, but the Sony sounds better so I am sure the Zune will soon be forgotten about... Kind of off the back of one of my posts yesterday, the X1000 just allows you to listen to music, not needing to constantly adjust volume etc, it sounds so good

Another way to tell i'm happy, i am listening at lower volume levels than i have before, the player being that resolving win win for me!

I look forward to the evolution of this thread

To follow on from my post above, I think I have kind of worked out why the X1000 sounds so good, and would like input from soozieq / walkingman / whoever else currently has the player...

To me, I have noticed a lack of 'crunch' compared to other players, by crunch, i mean - well, artefacts, it seems like either the S-Master thing really works, or Sony have an absolutely top notch decoder in this player (or, I guess - a mixture of the two) - It really does, when swapping back to other players, sound like they are using lesser quality rips than those on the X1000 (even though they are identical, both copied from the same source)...

...That goes some way to describe the inky blackness I guess - that there is no excess overhang on any instruments etc...

I might actually do some lower quality rips (128kbps lets say) and see if the difference is even more profound, the nearer you get to absolute bottom ripping quality...

How bad is the browser on it? Can someone try pistonheads.com and see if that works? I guess it works fine on wap pages, though?

Hello all,

My first post, yey! LOL!

I have been err bashing this Sony on AVForums due to the lack of a lossless format support i.e. no Flac playback.

My question is what would sound better? A Samsung P3 with a Flac file or the Sony X series with a 320kbps mp3 file? I would firstly think it is all about the quality of the Dac and amp inside the player that defines the sound quality/signature? So, assuming that Sony has the better components, would it sound better than another player playing back Flac?

I would be intertested to hear any testimonials regarding the two players and Flac etc.

Thanks,

Me x.

P.S. Amazon and Play both have the 16GB @ £179.99.

Ffs Duncan stop it!! lol

I dont want to buy the bloody thing and I'm happy with my A818 but you're making me want it more and more now.

Can't you just tell everyone that it's average instead? lol

The only saving grace is that you're the only one raving about it at the moment so I'm thinking/hoping that you might be mad

To answer a question that was posted a couple of days ago, we had a bit of sunlight and the OLED screen is visible as long as the brightness level is set to maximum.

Anyway, who first to pry the case open and have a look at the PCB?

Oh, £179.99 is a great price for the 16GB. John Lewis is selling them for £229 I believe, so that is a substantial saving.
