the ipod touch couldve been much better with external buttons + hold... its so convenient

Well, it does have an effective hold - the power button holds it. And when pressing it only once, you can still navigate tracks, volume, etc. Or you can double click the home button and move in and out of music or other apps with one touch. Not perfect for music when compared to music-only devices, but not bad.

Learn to do a search of the forums, since it's been discussed quite a few times. I don't know myself,...

Haha Ipod touch doesnt have a hold button? Fail haha. Besides even if it does, that thing is so bloody huge.

Anyways the X1000 blows away the garbage generic ipods. People buy them cause theyre cheap and a buncha sheep. Ive only had my x1000 for a few days but I notice its a real head turner cause of the super gorgeous OLED screen.

Careful, you'll raise the ire of quite a few disciples 'round here.

I have officially admitted that I am an iSheep, but that doesn't make me any less an 'audiophile' than someone with a Sony (I own three, but not the X). You forget that Sony have disadvantages too, and that half of the lark that is spouted here about iPods is general misunderstanding.

That said, I love my Sony's if for the fact that they ARE smaller and tend to sound great with balanced armature earphones. For Dynamic earphones, however, I find no reason to lose gapless playback, gain hiss, and shrink stereo separation.

All of that said, I am on the hunt for an 845 - may pick on up in the next few weeks and even though the hiss is going to kill me, I will do my best to enjoy it!

I think you're a lot more sensitive to hiss than I am. The hiss is there with the X but only If I listen for it with my IE8 or use it at higher volumes. I generally listen between 6-14 our of 30 and the hiss is quite innocuous at those levels. Using an ER4P-S 75 ohm resistance adapter does seem reduce the hiss some.

People have different needs and wants. In fact, a lot of people bought an ipod touch for gapless, decent apps and lossless codecs over the X1000. Sure, the OLED screen looks great, but if the device is strictly for music, then it has no use at all. In the iPod classic's case, it's one of the ONLY harddrive players left in the market.

I've used all of them before (ZHD, ipod touch, Cowon S9, Sony X), and while it's true the X series sounded most impressive, I don't find paying 500 dollars for a media player that can't even do gapless (Unless it's ATRAC. Even then, only available on the Japanese players) or even popular lossless codecs that justifed.

I have tried long and hard to tell the difference between 256kbps and lossless and have yet to do it. Of the 2500 songs I have on my ipod touch, about 3 or 400 of them are lossless. i have A/B some of those songs in lossless and 256 and could not for the life of me pick up any difference in sound quality at all. Portions of this might be due to me listening to very loud music all through my 20's. Not sure....but I know I can't pick up on it.

I never hear any hiss on my walkman unless I kick up the volume. I generally never listen past 10, but I would say the times I have tried to hear hiss, I was up around the 18 to 20 range.

My 2 cents on the X is that if the 32GB model was 100 dollars cheaper...it would be quite a buy. I owned one for a few months, and really never felt good about spending that much money on it. Ultimately it got sold and the S639 remains the daily go to portable.

lol I can gaurentee you that majority of the people who bought ipods dont even know what the hell gapless even is! THey bought them cause its what everyone has and they just follow the rest of the sheep. To me thought, gapless is not an issue to me. Im not that impatient not being able to wait a second or two between songs.
