Hey Duncan, it must be done charging soon!

Can't wait to hear what you think. I listened to my A808 again, and it doesn't pale in comparison at all, it just sounds less powerful.

Oh, tap the glass and tell me if sounds like plastic, but don't tap it with a baseball bat

Sounds like plastic to me too

Having a bad time with file transfer though... I decided to fill it straight away (seemingly a BIG mistake...) - I'll have my first listen in about... 2hrs 20mins...

As another random thing, I'm happy to have a very low figure serial number, If i'm reading this rightly, mine was one of the first 150 registered / made

Ha ha ha ha. Oh, it's rude to laugh...

I gave up with the big transfer when I saw '4 hours 57 minutes' remaining... so I just chucked a few over so I could give it a listen.

Ooh, where did you see the serial number? I read that the first batch - OURS - came from Japan - and the others are being sent from Europe, so we're special. From Sony Insider:
Quote:
The UK has been allocated with apporx. 2,800 units that have come directly from Japan to the UK. Sony UK expects to get around 15,000 units in the upcoming weeks when the European dispatch comes in. At the moment the small about that is on sale was sent directly from Japan, which doesn't normally happen, but i'm guessing Sony wanted to release it faster than they wanted.

Soozieq...

My serial number is on a sticker, on the back of the player

Edit...

It is also on the back of the box, on the top of the two stickers... if yours is like mine, the sticker will read S01-5xxxxxx-0

It is also worthy of note that the top sticker is stuck over the top of the model number on the packaging itself, so - this definitely would tie in with your / Sony insiders theory

I have a seven-figure serial number next to S/N on the back. Where are you getting the three figures from, as in 150? Is it the last three figures in the number?

I'm number 106! Okay, I'm going to transfer more stuff now and leave it for a couple of hours. Amazingly slow transfer speeds just like good old SonicStage. I'll check back later to see if you love it or hate it

heh, well, i'm 144... so - you beat me, but - would definitely lead me to believe that we're from the first batch

Yup, i'll post early impressions a bit later on
