Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250ohm vs. Beyerdynamic DT770 Premium 250ohm vs. Beyerdynamic MMX300

I tried searching everywhere but could not get any info so could you guys tell which is the best out of Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250ohm, Beyerdynamic DT770 Premium 250ohm & Beyerdynamic MMX300

also are they better than the Sennheiser HD555 I currently own

I have Auzen X-Fi Forte which has a headphone amp & it can go upto 600ohm

I'm a gamer so will prefer a microphone attached but not at the cost of Sound Quality

If you guys have some other suggestions then my Budget is $300 & requirements are:
1) Must be Closed Back
2) Must have a 2.5 to 3 meter long cord
3) Must be Very Comfortable (12hrs usage daily)
4) Must have a good Sound Stage
5) Must have amazing bass
6) Should have a Microphone (But not necessary)

Try looking at Beyerdynamic DT190. It's a DT150 with a mic

ahh looks cool but the Frequency response is 40-12,000 Hz on DT190 & 5-30000 on DT150
post #4 of 22
frequency response doesnt mean a lot most of the time.
They could have used different measuring standards for each of those two.... Maybe
edit: while we're here, can someone outline (factually, if possible) the physical differences between consumer and premium 770s?

Consider the DT880s and DT990s. Unless you listen to a lot of hip-hop the DT770s might have too much bass. My DT990s have awesome bass while still being tight and accurate.

consumer vs premium? I'm confused, aren't they the same thing?

Do you mean consumer vs pro?

Here are some threads for you to read up on:

I'm into hip-hop only :P

is MMX300 same as DT770 too?

DT880 and DT990 are useless because they are open and the OP wants closed.

So "premium" is just a marketing campaign ?
@ OP.
770 is an alright choice for hiphop in my opinion. It doesnt have a large amount of slam in its bass, which, if you want you sohuld probably look at something from ultrasone. Given the often basic kick 2-feel in hiphop, I personally preferred my 770 to a friends ultrasone.
Something to keep in mind. (ps i use the 770 pro.)
IMO the 770 doesnt lend itself well to every genre but it does some very well (trance, goa, electropop(!!), hiphop..)

I have DT770 Pros (250).

I like 'em for rock music, esp. guitar-oriented, metal, and hip hop. They're not so great for jazz, classical, or vocal-focused material.

Lots of bass power, and I would say lots of slam too, contrary to others above. Not a lot of definition in the bass, more like a good, fun "oomph."

Good isolation, very comfortable.

Good soundstage for closed cans, though somewhat "fake" feeling, ie. there's a definitely noticeable spread-out of certain frequencies in certain degrees along the L/R field.

The cord on the 250 ohm version is 9-10 feet (can't remember), but is curly, so is really only about 3 feet.

DT297

DT291, but it doesn't have a cable.

They're the same as DT250s.

yes it was consumer vs. pro

I had a change in heart after exchanging a message with Head-Fi member Tiemen

now I'm confused between M-Audio Q40, AKG K 271 MK II, AKG K 272 HD, GermanMaestro GMT250 (formerly MB Quart QP 250), Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80ohm, Beyerdynamic DT150, Beyerdynamic DT250/297 80ohm, Audio-Technica ATH-A700, Audio-Technica ATH-A900 & Beyerdynamic MMX300

Wow..that is a very long list of headphones..

Do more reading/research, knock them out one by one :P

What do you mean by "change in heart"? Oh and yes, Tiemen seems to be the Guru when it comes to different versions of the DT770.

I can only compare DT770, DT250 and DT150 i have them and use them.

DT770 Pro has the most bass impact and the best comfort out of the three.
DT770 05' is a improved version of the PRO but having a more flatten sound spectrum. No massive spike in the low freq. Comfort is just as good as the PRO. Soundstage is average and the same as PRO.

DT150 has the best sound quality out of the four, powerful bass but detailed with flat mids and slight recessed highs. DT150 also has the widest soundstage out of the three by far.

DT250 is the most neutral out the four but soundstage is much worse than DT150 and DT770. Comfort is good but not great because the pads are a bit small for me.

Out of the four and your requirements i would choose between DT770 05' and DT150.

change as in he explained the pros & cons of many so I diverted from my original plans

he says DT150, Q40 & DT770 Pro 80ohm are best for me & AKG K271/272 & GermanMaestro GMT250 are second best but he has not tested the rest sadly
