Only got to listen to this thing for about an hour.. Gonna be a long night.
It does not charge via USB. It needs the ginormous AC adapter to charge the battery.

Ok, thanks. Strange that the bars indicated that it was charging when I hooked it up to my dad's Mac.. Hmm.

Well, anyway, I'll go get an adapter tomorrow.

got mine this morning 8am~ had to wake up early around 7am and open my door just so the post man wont have excuse to ditch me lol

thanks for the extra battery, i bet many will be jealous but hey~ its been long wait for aug buyer

its smaller than i thought and the paint feels good, its light ~ and according to chinese post its 24k gold plated ( the box.... it isnt 24k gold plated is it?? the box is nice and sturdy btw)

its not for the new kids who love fleshy shiny gadgets(dont get me wrong, its shiny and pretty lol) its kind of old school style like the old walkman (i happen to be in walkman era, still have my blue panasonic shockwave sports walkman in storage i think) and the built is very sturdy~ the amp part has warranty sticker on it so i didnt remove it to check~ let some body do it for all of us then as i intend to keep my warranty-and even hope the 3 yr extra on offer soon

the battery cover part have to be careful~ its built so sturdy that there is little margin of error. not that you will scratch etc but if you not careful u might just did that~ so i handle with care, no weir sound those you found in cheap gadgets when shaking etc as the built is sturdy and the weight spread just right while its light.

by the way, never have ipod at all in my life so i really have no idea what the User interface would be like~ never an apple fan, though their notebooks/pcs before iphone era really attract me. after iphone came out all their products just lost the sex appeal to me

at the moment i havent turn it on, will start my battery charging now~ it would be nicer if the screen or any thing can tell you that its been charging (it might do that if power on charging, i m just careful with my machine and yet to turn it on so charging it off power atm) then i can post my feedback

~ oh my god, i m not sure if i can hold my urge not to turn it on for 8 hours ?? i wanna turn it on and try now~~

(Head-direct forgot to include the RE0 i ordered~thats minor blip)

just turn it on........ damn it~ take less than an hour to break me

any way, there r only really tiny little hiss when turn the volume all the way up to the max~ very very tiny

wow~~~ its really really good....... i m pairing it with TF10 and there r 22 mp3 songs between 128 to 320k wma music on flash and some songs really blow me away

top left bottom seems to be switch between menu and song playing screen

top right is the ok/enter/execution bottom

bottom left is up while bottom right is down bottom in menu screen

so far not yet finding out what the middle one is for during main menu but in song menu its play/pause

the firmware is 0.09 2009-12-01
the battery was almost fully charged when power up~ i guess it must have already been charged while they QC check (plus the firmware also indicate its recent)

just listen less than 10 min, i must say the background is "really dark" !
the bass/drum is very very good ~~ and all this is from 128k wma ~

i have yet to load the FLAC on SD yet, cant wait to see how the FLAC plays like compare to 128

the Flash on board is 1.82 GB by the way. i have yet to try copy or deleting files from it as in previous thread mention there is a firmware bug about flash on board and i do not want to damage my system~

i will try to delete songs in it but dont think i will add more songs in it.

LCD screen is really bright and of high quality one~ i m not sure about the resolution~ but its quite responsive. switching menu or changing songs or settings etc r quite fast, its not slow and with reasonable delay only

update:
so far i have tried ~

Kings Of Leon - Only By The Night (VINYL)
the vocal is vast improvement ~

Black Eyed Peas - E.N.D
the bass is amazing, quality is so much better ! deep and finished tight ~ like give a punch on your chest but withdrew instantly. does not spread out but i m hoping the volume could be bigger, i wanna get blow away flying on the air kind ( i think i m potential bass head, wants destruction kind of bass lol ) but its best so far i have heard.... its simply unfair to compare it to some of my favorite clubbing spot in brisbane, those r $$$ speaker and equiptment.

My HDTracks Music - Jazz Blues Experience - 6-Louisiana Swamp Swank
the guitar is awesome, i heard even more details.

one thing though, the stage is not far away from you or to your side next to you kind..... its like in front spread evenly horizontal kind

above is my impression so far pairing up with TF10, i dont consider myself good at describing at all but its vast improvement from my PDA/SE W950i/Laptop

the TF10 has done over 100hrs etc(i m not paranoid enough to mark my hours but i have rough idea at least how much)
the 801 done less than 40min straight out of box.

That flash bug seems to be fixed. At least on the unit I have (running the most recent version of the firmware). I have three FLAC albums on there maxing out the flash and all is well.

the EQ setting - "bass" is totally useless........ does not help the bass and makes it so much worst ~ i m sticking to "normal" setting ~ havent try other settings though but if "bass" is like that i dont think other setting is doing any good ??

oh, in user EQ~ you do have options to adjust EQ yourself according to your taste

i wonder other owners agree with my impression so far?? or they felt different ?

I thought the 801 did not have any EQ. Has that been added to the software?

i m not sure, but possible.

i had a great night enjoying 801 ~ going back to laptop/PDA/w950i etc is not possible cause i can simply hear the difference between them. so after short going back i m back with 801 again.

with 801, i tried turning the volume all the way up to max with some songs and i can still bear with it not feeling noisy but only loud while with my PDA etc, just slightly up the volume and i can no longer listen to it coz it's just too noisy

Congratulation testrichard. I hope that you find the wait worthwhile.

I have the first batch and I am able to run music off of the internal flash.
Hint- The 801 does not like a completely full SD card. If you load it up and it says "No File", Just remove a 1/2 gig off the card and it holds onto everything and starts playing again.

I still haven't figured out the V100 spotlight or the "trashes" folders. Please note, like most SDHC cards, when you erase music of your SD card, even though it doesn't show in the menu, it still occupies precious space. Make sure to empty your trash bin when that the card is the primary drive at the time, and the "recycle bin" on the card will deplete the deleted files.

the wait is worth while for sure, i m having my 801 on charge now and listening King of leon the same song on my PDA X51v

i m being completely fair here and not being bias since the investment on 801 is large, i even trying to find flaws of 801 over x51v and nope.

i really really cant listen to the songs on x51v... the noise gives me headache and its such high frequency.....that i have to turn the volume down below average! i m struggle just trying to finish the song..... while 801 i can just relax and even turn up the volume until i feel loud~

while w950i (my gym work out rig) and my laptop~ their performance just average, nothing stands out or amazing about them

by the way, while listening as player on charge with power adapter, if you pull the power cable out it will froze. and 801 cant play without battery installed as when u power it up it will just show white screen~ have to power off and installed battery then it works again

yeap, the flash has no problem at all. i was able to add and delete songs in flash memory and i m using them over 80% now.

by the way, almost full SD card seems no issue with me, it works alright with me though i did have fair bit of space left with my SD. my firmware version is 0.09 2009-12-01

You Mac user you

These are hidden OS X directories written to all writeable drives. V100 spotlight is the cached directory that spotlight (the search engine on your comp) uses, and the trashes folder is well, Macs trash folder for that media space.
