i think it is the only way to have a gapless playback by supporting cue playback
post #902 of 1453
Anybody can tell me the way to use the Cue Lists of the HiFiMan 801 please?

It would be great if there was a reference amp module for IEMs and a high gain ref amp module for full size cans ...

I would probably get both amp modules ... if it goes that way ...

Cheers

That would be nice indeed. I would go for the reference module for the IEM.

Ordered August 24. Probably one of the very last ones in the 1st batch but no news yet...

Unless I've been sidestepped, by mistake or otherwise, it thus seems as Fang has his work cut out for him if all the people in the 1st and 2nd batches are to receive their units before Xmas...

Fang did mentioned that shipment for the buyers who purchased before the end of the July had been completed. Another shipment will be in the early Dec. So hopefully yours is coming soon. It's worth the wait.

Man, it's been a long time since I looked forward to a "toy" as much as this and reading the comments from all you lucky owners doesn't make the wait easier

Do you mean cue as in .cue extension or playlist as in .m3u extension?

It's my understanding that a .cue can be used to show/play individual tracks when the underlying file is physically only one extended track whereas a playlist is a list of tracks that get played in that order

I'd like to know if a playlist can be created on a computer and then transferred to the hifiman/sdhc card and play in the playlist order (if the tracks on that playlist exist on the hifiman/sdhc card)

So... when/where can I buy one?

Where: Head-Direct.com | YUIN

When: Not sure. The last information I found was posted 11-05-2009, 11:15 PM so I guess it depends on the definition of "a few weeks":

The only sort of "playlist" that seems to work on the Hifiman are single track .cue files.
multi track .cue files don't function properly, and .m3u files don't even seem to show up on the Hifiman.

It would be very nice if Fang could provide us with a bit of information about what is supported and what not.
I would also like to know how the firmware is coming along, and which features will be included in the future.

Thanks for the replies. There are a few things that I'm confused:
Why do we need single track cue file? If the wav files or flac files can be played when put in a folder, how does a cue file help?

I don't think 801 supports playlists up till now. I've asked the same question about the playlist long time ago but don't think there are any real progress. But the favorite built in the 801 can be used as the only playlist. Multi-playlist like IPod is still out of reach though.

Aargh!! After just a week or so of sonic bliss, my house was burglarized, and the thieves got my Hifiman, along with two computers and several musical instruments! With the production delays, who knows when I'll be able to replace it.

Acctually it makes sense. I also keep a lot of albums that way. One cue file and one flac file. That flac file is basicaly whole album. By keeping files like this, you can burn exact copy of your CD in case something happens to original one. I mean exact copy.

And if the player supports cue file, even better. No need to split that big (back-up) file into separate songs.

I haven't tried it with hifiman, but if it works, that's great!
