Hi NanKai,

Any possibility of gain switch - hardware or software - for making them IEM friendly.

Thanks

ES3X does not hiss with the 801. So it's relatively IEM friendly. I use the lineout to feed in the Lisa III and out to the ES3x. The sounds is truly astounding.

Manual of the 801

By the way Fang, is there any manual for the 801? I can't find it in the package. Any way that I can download it? Thank you.

Glad to hear it does not hiss. I hope to use mine with my UM3Xs. How does the volume control work for you when feeding your IEMs directly from the 801? Can you manage or is there too little usable range?

Thanks

He is using a completely different configuration than you would be.

I mostly use my UE-10's E500's and JH-13's without any problems with finding an appropriate volume. I don't see a need for a gain switch. The HiFiMAN is pretty versatile towards all headphones up to 300Ω.

Anytime you add a tone control or a gain switch, you are adding more electronics into the loop which could degrade the sound. I'm not saying that it always does, but it might.

How about using a resistor cable?

Thanks for pointing that out again. I did notice he was using the line out, but I guess I figured he had also plugged his IEMs directly into the 801 just to see how they sounded with the amp in the 801.

So I would still be curious how Greenleo finds the volume control range to be when using his ES3X ( which are very sensitive headphones just like my UM3X) directly out of the 801. Thanks for any info you can offer.

"ES3X does not hiss with the 801. So it's relatively IEM friendly." refers to plugging in the ES3X directly to the built-in amp of the 801.

"I use the lineout to feed in the Lisa III and out to the ES3x. The sounds is truly astounding." -- actually Lisa III hisses with the ES3X and I need to use a resistor adapter that serves as a 1/4" to 1/8" inch converter as well.

I have one that Xin made for me years ago. I'll give it a try. I think mine is only 50 Ohms, but hopefully it will provide some interesting results.

Thanks for clarifying that. Do you find it easy enough to use the volume control to control the volume on the ES3X (plugged directly into the 801) or is the range of usable volume too small?
