DIY Amp build

Thread Starter
So I want to build an amp and a DAC for my setup. Right now, the source is just a macbook, and my phones are Ultrasone HFI-780 (they are 35ohm headphones). I think I want to build the amp before the DAC, and I'm between building a starving student and a solid-state build. Would my HFI780's sound better with the hybrid amp of the starving student, or would they sound better with some other solid-state, and if so, which one? I think as far as the DAC goes, I'll probably build a y1.

I was hopin to get your guys' thoughts on the hybrid vs. solid-state with 35ohm ultrasones.

And can anyone help me with recabling the HFI-780's? If someone has done this, please PM me.

Thanks everyone!

i would look into how hard tubes are to find before going the starving student route, their rarity may significantly raise the price of what you think the build will cost.

true, but if I can't find the Starving student tubes, there is an edit for it to use different tubes. The biggest question is: tube hybrid vs solid-state for hfi-780's

Guys, any help? I really want to start a build to keep me busy this summer. Should I try the starving student, or should i try some other tube hybrid? OR should i go with a solid-state build, and if so, which one? Please, I need some help choosing. This will be for my HFI-780 headphones, but even if you dont have any experience with ultrasone's, what's your opinion on a build. I'm heavily leaning toward tube hybrids
