True portable iem setup - Page 2

post #16 of 25
How about: Cowon D2/iMod -> PICO DAC/AMP or PICO Slim -> Westone ES3X.
This is what that I am going to have soon, and when I will get it I will be more than glad to give you my opinions about the combo.

But i think the ES3X is in the custom iem domain which is not i'm looking for. The choice is in between the universals. I dont know why no one is recommending the shure, though they are quite respected here.

Any of the universals you're considering + any of the portable amps you're considering, will cost more than customs when all is said and done. And they won't have the same level of sound quality. And you have to lug them around.

Sorry, I'll duck out now. I'm not trying to go off on a tangent. You're not alone in wanting to go in this direction, I've done it myself and there are a ton of people on this site that feel it's worth it...

i thought the clip is one of the best sounding DAPs? no need to force yourself in getting an iPhone 3G unless you really need an all-in-one device (phone, surfing, apps, songs, etc).

if you listen to a wide genre of music, i wouldn't recommend SE530. westone 3, UM3X, TF10pro & IE8 are better all rounders. look around for impressions & reviews to narrow down your choices.

Wow i have the clip. Nice sounding player. But my N91 8gb still beats all my daps including the ipod, walkman, panasonic , clip purely in the sonic department itself. Maybe a quality dac inside .
Btw will i make a mistake if i go with the senn IE8 other than the westone?
Coz the senn is cheap (half the price) compared to the westone in UK.

I understand ur honest opinion to go the custom route rather than this equally costly cubercome setup. But why i'm avoiding this is all these high-end products are not available in my country other than the shures and bose. So i'm getting this via my relative in london. No need for audiologist ear impression and all that stuff.

Now the contest really boils down to the Senn IE8 and the westone 3.
price wise -> Senn
sound wise (reviews) -> Westies
Anyone?

the only reasons why you should NOT choose IE8 is if the following are your utmost priority:
1. isolation
2. less, just sufficient bass

if those doesn't bother you, just get it. between IE8 and westone 3, its all about
preference, one is not better than the other. both IEMs work well for almost all genres.
