Ultrasone mid price recommendations

I just tried my son's 580's with my C&C Box+. I like them better than my Senn 280 Pro's. I see a model 700 for $175 vs. $148 for the 580.

Is the 700 the same as 780?

I see the HFI 700 is same as older HFI-650.

I've got the HFI-650, and I will say two things:

1) Plan for an addtional $25 for different pads. The stock pads are nothing short of inhumane.
2) These are great movie headphones! (notice how I didn't say "music"?)

Since you have an amp, I would recommend to try to find a pair of Sennheiser 580 instead (or stretch your budget a bit and grab a used pair of HD-600).

the 780 is a revamped version of the 700... You cant go wrong with it as a good fun headphone.

You might want to consider the PRO750 or 2500, used, if you're bent on Ultrasone. I personally preferred the 750.

If you elect to stay with Sennheiser, I second the HD600 recommendation. : )

Or, if your budget doesn't stretch to the 750/2500, the Pro 650 and HFI 2200 (an open version of the Pro 650) are good choices. Not as detailed, fwir, but a bit more forgiving and certainly fun.

I was looking at the HFI 580 or 700 on DJDeals. So that's different than Pro 580 or 650/700.

My first Ultrasone was the 700 and my second was the 780. Of those, I use my 780, since I took apart my 700 and did stuff with it. Both the 700 and 780 sound very similar. I did not listen to them back-to-back, so they could even sound indistinguishable for all I know.

My roommate fell in love with my 780, so he wanted to get a pair of Ultrasones. I suggested he get the 580 because it is the cheapest in the HFI line, so I knew it would sound similar. I've listened to his 580 and must say that is sounds very good to me. The only difference I can think of between his 580 and my 780 is that I got the impression that the 580 had more bass, but I could be imagining that; I listened to his music, not my own.

If you enjoyed the 580, you will enjoy the 700 or 780 equally. Get whichever is cheapest.

If your ready to put 175$ on HFI700, i'd definitly say , get the 780 for what they cost here in Head-Fi. Still around the same budjet ( maybe a bit more expensive ) but at least an improve version and pretty awesome headphones.

But then you would have to forget those funny alien faces !!

I have been considering an Ultrasone headphone for quite some time, and I still haven't made up my mind. I will probably end buying the new closed Shure headphones. But ATM the main canditdates are HFI-780 and the Pro Line 650 (which is the older model, but can be had for 100 € shipped)
They both have their point the 650 should be somewhat rounder ind the sound and more comfortable, but the 780 will make it easier to listen at low levels with it's V-shaped frequency repsonse.

I normally won't enter into these discussions, but I want to inform you that DJ Deals isn't an authorized dealer and therefore, Ultrasone will not honor the manufacturer's warranty for products purchased through them.

I would susggest one of the dealers that are sponsors of Head-Fi.

Yes. RMC Audio is an authorized dealer.

Ultrasone is currently updating the list of authorized dealers on its website.
