How do you store extra rechargeable batteries?

These are two questions for you portable audio freaks:

Do you store your NiMH rechargeable batteries mostly discharged, or fully charged? (The accompanying poll will ask you what you actually do, not what you should do.)

And should you fully discharge batteries before storing them, or fully charge the batteries before storage?

OOPS! One more thing I forgot to add:

IMHO older NiCd rechargeable batteries should be stored as close to fully discharged as possible.

Do you agree or disagree with my opinion?

Note that the original post refers to NiMH rechargeables.

Geeeeeeeeeet baaaaaaaaack, geeeeeeeeet baaaaaaaaack, geeeeeeeeeeeet baaaaaaaaaaaaack to wheeeeeeeeeere yoooouuuuuuuu once beeeeeeeeeelooooooooonged!!!!!!

So far, few people cared! It's 3 votes for "fully charged", zero votes for "fully discharged", 1 vote for "sometimes fully charged, sometimes half- or fully discharged" - and those who either use only alkaline batteries and/or AC power in their portable gear haven't showed up yet!!

*shouting, very loud*

Yoooouuuuuuuu piiiiiieeeeeeceeee oooooooooof craaaaaaaaapp!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NiCd and NiMH (unlike lead acid) batteries should be stored discharged in a cool dry place. If you're planning on using the batteries in a few weeks, keep them charged. For a prolonged storage, discharge them first.
PS: Don't keep your batteries for a long time in the charger under trickle charge. Several days is OK though.

Note: LiIon batteries are VERY different....they should never be fully discharged.......in fact, you should always recharge them BEFORE they run out of juice.....if you keep fully discharging and recharging them, they're battery life will reduce over time...

NiCd and NiMH are different though....
