For sale is a Stax SRM-1, modified:
*output caps upgrade to 1uf Mundorf silver-in-oil capacitors
*high voltage rail reservoir caps upgraded to Mundorf M-lytic 33+33uf (each cap is 33+33).
*added 580V bias and converted one socket to 5-pin pro-bias. There are more pro bias options (up to 640V) but I don't think you need anything other than the 580v. See the details below for reasoning.
*upgraded low voltage supply caps to Muse+BlackGate+Nichicon AVF.
*Added extra heatsink fins.
* converted the original power cable to a short IEC recepticle pigtail (there is not enough estate on the rear plate for a IEC socket), so your favorite power cord can be used.
This amp is voiced for pro-biased lambda's (mainly Lambda pro, as that was the one I had). If you have decided the Lambda pro is your type of phone but want to take the rough edges off, this is the amp for it.
Performence: the overall performence is between SRM-1mk2 and T1s. The main complain on the T1S/W is the vocal abbrasiveness (T1s has wide sound stage, yet the voice all come from a small area in the middle), and the main complain on the SRM-1mk2(the mk2 is a entirely different amp, there is no similarity between the mk2 and this one ) is compressed sound stage with abbrasiveness in all frequencies. This modded amp outperformes the SRM-1mk2 in most areas, except the extra output power of the mk2 (which you don't really need if you are driving a Lambda-pro); and there is no vocal abbrasivness (so it is better than the T1s in that area) with this amp. But still it couldn't match up with T1S' extra fine details and transparency.
To sum it up,
Output power: T1S < modded SRM-1 < SRM-1mk2
Details: SRM-1mk2/modded SRM-1 < T1S
Vocal: SRM-1mk2 /T1s < modded SRM-1
Sound stage: SRM-1mk2<modded SRM-1<T1s
Not intended for driving more demanding phones such as ESP950/Jade/4070/O2. (on the other hand, you will probably need something like a 007t to drive those well, for just vocal stuff)
Price is $550 shipped con-US (add actual shipping for international). Plus paypal fees if pay by paypal.
Selling because I need to force myself to build the tube amp. Right now I just keep using this amp for vocal and rock music (T1W for classical) and don't want to move forward.....
