So today since I was so bummed out that I didn't get my K701's, I decided to recable my SR-225i's with stranded silver wire. It took me around 2 hours in total (includes cable construction, ear cup, soldering, and reassembling).
With these newer Grado's the mesh screen isn't glued on, it's held in place by pressure from the inner ear cup. Recabling was done using six wires in 6' lengths. I used OEM 99.9% stranded silver wire, along with TexFlex. The wire's were tri-braided and then helix braided around each other (two different strands of tri-braided wire). This way it will know out a lot of RFI.
With the silver wire, it seems transient response is upped and so is dynamics, resolution, and clarity while still retaining that Grado sound. So now they sound a little more neutral, kinda like the MS2.
