24bit 192khz diy dac

Hello everyone

I want to build a new dac so i can hear
my new collection of hd music ( flac 24/96 )
from my computer.
I already have an external creative that supports
24/96 from coaxial or optical out.

Does anyone know any kit that can be
as good as the benchmark dac?

Thanks

yep, thats the one, the sabre32 is the highend dac kiler. if I can actually get in there in time to buy one before they all sell out this time its mine O mine

though I might just wait for the tweakers version depends on how long in development its gonna be

Benchmark DAC1 is nothing special - most 'good' DACs (EZdac, Opus, COD) should be able to match it.

How come Twisted Pear is always sold out? I'm sure they have good stuff, but every time I've wanted something there it's gone.

Anyhow, take a look at the RAKK DAC over at K&K Audio. I've had my eye on it for some time.

Because it is good gear, thus popular

While Buffalo is in very short supply, they still have OPUS in stock. Add a SPDIF Mux just to a straight OPUS board and you have a pretty great setup. Can later upgrade to go dual mono with a dedicated linestage, USB receiver......

If you're going with the IVY anyway, IMO the COD is better. Plus you can get samples of pcm1794 from TI. Don't tell them I sent you though.

Opus is in stock. There just aren't any SPDIF receivers so that package is listed as out of stock, but there are still bare boards and combos with the USB receiver

If you need regular SPDIF rather than USB, use the SPDIF Mux instead and get four-input goodness.

TPA DACs are always out of stock because they sell out fast! Having owned a few DACs already and using the TPA Buffalo as my reference is my way of saying "yeah, it's damn worth it!"

Had to stay up until 4am to buy the Buffalo32 within the 30 seconds it sold out in was worth it.

I usually don't bash against a few choice pieces of equipment but that DAC1 is so NOT THE BEST as it's always claimed to be! I've got my eyes on the forums to buy one so I can change my statement from "from my limited experience with" to "I've owned it, listened to it a lot and my mind still hasn't changed".

Hi

where can someone buy EZdac kit?

Thanks
EZdac isn't available as a kit - bare boards only. google it and e-mail the creator and see if he still has boards available. The nice thing about it is its simplicity in use - feed it spdif, give it +/-12v, and music comes out the other end.

Do you thing Opus is better than benchmark usb dac ??

What better specs has the Opus?

I want to use it for 24/96 and 24/192 music files

Not better, just not necessarily worse. The DAC1 has the advantage of being able to accept 24/96 via USB, but if you have a soundcard that will output spdif at 24/96 or 192 the difference is negligible. Make sure you use a metronome with that Opus though, if you're going spdif.

The Benchmark has scores of 93-cent NE5532s and whatever else, and they aren't all necessarily laid out / power supplied in the best way. There's a thread on diyaudio about it. It's a good DAC to be sure, but not the best.
