Just got my UM3x today, so we will see how they are compared to my older 3's.

i use treble booster on my ipod nano. although clarity is great without equalisation, highs are a bit soft. equalising them just makes them more audible.

So far I am really enjoying the Um3x's so far, they aren't as bass heavy as the 3's but I got used to that after 10-20 minutes of listening, the best thing about these is that I can go back to comply tips which I liked.

I am also able to hear the cymbals more easily with then before...

I am not to descriptive I am afraid, but I like em is my current opinion.

not really surprising; you've been trying to justify selling them for a while now

the E5 only seems to perform with iem that are lacking in bass and a bit thin. its not one for adding much in the way of soundstage, control, authority or clarity as it doesnt actually have much if any more power than a regular HP out. enjoy your $200

^^^Haha, you're right. I have been trying to justify selling the UM3X for a few days now. It's so strange how much can change when you get to compare two headphones side by side. My main hesitation with the PFE is the fact that they really need the E5 to sound great. This means always having to lug around a LOD and amp. The Westone has zero benefit from the E5, but does sound a little better with my iBasso D3 as a source/amp.

I feel unsure of my decision at this point because I really thought I'd like the UM3X more when I got the chance to compare them to the PFE. I guess I'll give my ears a few more days to come to a conclusion. I apologize if I have become redundant in my dilemma. I'll try to say some new things every once in a while.

Don't let my price tag fool you around, there is nothing wrong you prefer PFE over UM3X/W3, since I remember there was someone prefer PFE over W3 back then.

I was one of the people who preferred the PFEs over the W3s in the early days (when I had them both). But I finally found the right tip/EQ combo for the W3s, and preferred the W3s over the PFEs. I also am one of the "amp only" PFE owners, when I had them, but rather than the E5, I liked the T4 much more (of course, it costs $100 more with shipping, though i got mine used for $85).

If you don't mind using an amp, the PFEs are an excellent value and offer great SQ my view. I didn't find them as isolating as the W3s either (no doubt the same for the UM3X). To me, I'd rather have a single IEM that can sound great amped or otherwise, than have to depend on an amp full-time, which is why I shed the PFEs and will keep the W3s (and maybe someday try the UM3X).

Seems like we've been in a similar predicament ckhirnigs. I was actually making the template to sell my um3x;s yesterday morning for reasons Ive described before. That was until I found the perfect tip and fit (trimmed long complys with shaft as parallel as possible to canal). Now I can safely say that these won't be going anywhere, dare I even say, I've now got a valid enough reason to quit the these damn forums!

Without going into explicit reasons as to why, I will, however, say that I;ve been finally delivered iems that bests mimics the overall feeling you get from a good set of full sized dynamic headphones. The soundstaging (not so much the net size, or the pinpoint precision but the general presentation) and smoothness across the board that you come to expect is pretty much almost all there. This married with the 'fixed' freq response and I think I'm good until something better is released along similar lines.

I still feel compelled to keep my pfe's as they give me that 'naked' and focused, direct sound that is very addictive but I will definitely be throwing everything else out.

I think the UM3X sound quite different than the W3's. I really like both, although having the IE8's I felt that the UM3X were a bit too smooth as well for me to keep both. I was looking for something with a bit more edge, which it seems the W3's certainly have it. Now, I'm not saying that the UM3X sound like the IE8's. I just think the overall presentation is similar as far as them both being very laid back and smooth, not in your face and muscular sounding as I'm finding the W3's to be.

If I had to keep one IEM it would be the UM3X, but since I don't it looks like I'll be okay with the IE8's, W3's, PFE's and other low end iems.

Be sure not to put them in your ear all at once! Nice collection though. I will definitely be keeping the pfe's though for similar reasons to your own.

I dont find UM3X is laid back presentation as IE8 does. UM3X is upfront presentation and that would be a real close if you turn the vol up. It never happened to IE8. They both share nice smoothness though
