For what it's worth the SE535 sounds like the UM3X with a touch less bass but more treble and a MUCH larger soundstage.

Forgive me. Never.

I actually find that the se535 mid is too artificial and muddy sounding compared to um3x.

The only thing se535 wins compared to um3x is their soundstage size in my opinion.

Been listening to Bob Marley on my UM3X today on my Voodoo'd G2X, really good synergy despite Legend not having top notch recording quality; I always thought the UM3X would be really revealing based on the reviews I'd read prior to purchasing it, but it doesn't really show up my lower bitrate tracks, which I'm glad for.

Ok so i recieved my star tips a few days ago and i completely agree with you. They make the um3x sound AMAZING.

Yeah they definitely give a more open sound compared to other tips IMO. They are the first tip to surpass the SM3 stock double flanges for my preference.

Dear UM3X users,

I'm new with Um3x and just received it in red color today ( purchased from amazon dealer, Soundearphones, which is said to be westone's authorized seller). First impression is that it's very coherent, strong bass ( like, really bassy compared to W4), and midrange; compared to westone W4 which is more relaxed, wide soundstage, and neutral. At the same volume, UM3x sings louder than W4, However, I felt that the build quality is....not satisfying. The engraved "westone" doesn't look right,  and the cabling feels more flexible than my W4, which is stiffer. Yet, the plug end  doesnt look the same as the white UM3x too. I could see the glue mark on the cabling. Could it be that it's a fake?

Edit: i put on the star tips. Additional picture were added to show the packaging: it says UM3X RC instead of regular UM3x...is that the "RC" means the one with detachable cable?

You need to contact Westone immediately.  RC should be the removable cable type, and those are not.  It looks like they may have been refurbished or something along those lines.  Check with Westone.

For those that are using the star tips with these, which length are you preferring?  I've got to get some.

Mediums for me, perfect length and diameter.

I bought the small ( blue) long star tips for my W4. But it also works for the Um3x. Oh, additionally the plug jack doesnt look right...i've contacted westone and the Amazon seller about this.

That Jack on your red UM3X is identical to the one on my UM3X RC stock cable.

That looks exactly like the plug that I got when I had Westone recable my um3x, while the original cable looked like the more squarish one on your other picture.  That is another reason why I am wondering if they are some sort of refurb, but I can't understand why it says "RC" in the box by they certainly are not that.  Also, was that red color a special edition or something?  I don't think they have sold that in with the "RC" offering.  I may be wrong.

Can anyone compare the small (blue or green) star tips to the small shure flex tips?  Same size diameter?
