Yes, those impressions are unamped on a Cowon D2 + Sony A818 with stock tips for both. As qusp has said, the UM3X's are extremely easy to drive.

it's quite sensitive. plugging it directly into the Nano 4g hp out i could already hear hiss, though it's very little such that when i play my music, it kinda disappears. As to sound signature, when playing a 30 second 20-20k hz freq sweep, i noticed an increase in volume from 0:07 to 0:10 and a slight increase in 0:14 to 0:16, whereas there was a slight rolloff from 0:23 onwards, and i couldn't hear anything after 0:27. Assuming increas in frequency was constant, i would say there was a hump of maybe 2-3 db around 4.5khz to 6.5khz and maybe around 2 db from 9.5khz to 10.5khz, then a rolloff starting from 15khz, where it extended to maybe 18khz. i was also able to hear sound at 15hz and feel vibrations at 5 and 10hz for single test tones, thus the range and extension for this iem is quite good. Note that i was using small shure olives with this. will probably start trying triflanges, shure soft and clear flexes when i find the time to get them.

I will try my SE210 tri flanges soon, but probably cut the third off. We'll see. It's time for me to test tips after I get out of the shower and dry my ears.
Tried tri flanges turned bi flange but didn't like them. Also tried SE210 small silicon tips but they didn't sound quite right either. I'm back to the supplied small Comply Tips. I'll try Olives later.
Started listening to a song I've heard 100 times and this time it just brought tears to my eyes. These things are pretty damn good.

Your question was answered on the last page.

| Was at Stereo this afternoon during lunch and managed to test both W3 and the new UM3x for a brief 15mins due to the people waiting. First impression is that the UM3x seems to isolate noise (lots at Stereo :bash: ) better, without any music, the UM3x seem to be able to drown out at least 80% of noise. Wires are the usual Westone braided type and something I really like about Westone when I first got a UM1 3 years back. I actually quite like the sound from the UM3x, it is warm and easy on the ears. Soundstage is decent compared to my Audio Technica CK100 ( Yes, CK100 has a wider soundstage) but is full and tight compared to the W3 which to me is a little bloated and muddy. The vocals felt slightly more forward compared to the W3 although I think that is mainly because the UM3x is overall clearer and cleaner in presentation compared to the W3. Specification wise, although the UM3x is higher in impedance but it is also higher in it's sensitivity so I didn't feel that the UM3x was much difficult to drive, still the UM3x produced lesser hiss (5%, maybe 10%?) on the iqube on low gain setting. I will drop over this Saturday to test again as I might consider getting this for my wife. ( I can use this when she is not.... :rclxms: ) |

If u read through all the posts, u will find the answer...
Compared to W3, bass is less but tighter. High is less sparkle on UM3X iirc, but more sparkle than SE530. Mid is more forward on UM3X but airier compare to W3.
