Westone UM3X Thread

Just received my upgrade from the RE0 this morning (i.e. the IEM in question in this thread).

Me likey. Me likey very much! With the right tips (Sony hybrids) and the right fit (slightly less than fully inserted, but certainly not loose), they are well balanced, extended, non-fatiguing, and incredibly comfortable. The general sound signature is pretty similar to my HD600, which is what I was going for.

I'm very happy with these puppies.

Just adding an option to the lineup. No plans to stop production on the hard-lined version.

What price will the new one be?

And any price drop on the hard-lined

I went and bought a UM3X after reading some other threads and a lot of pages from this one. All I can say is that I love these phones; very neutral and amazing sound separation. IMO well worth the money.

Oh and very comfortable as well; I wear them for hours at a time with no discomfort. I couldn't say the same about my Triple.Fi 10s :/

well after much deliberation and reading of this thread, i have decided to shelve the remould of my tf10 and went for these instead.

tf were never comfartable for me and the resell value of customs were a big factor in helping me make the decision

4 minutes ago I fully realized why I love these IEMs so much. While listening to Sarah Chang's "remake" (don't know what else you would call a classical remake) of (Winter) movement 1 Allegro non molto, the UM3Xs completely blew me away. The level of detail that I'm getting from these IEMs is phenomenal.

Perfect instrument separation. Amazing detail. Amazing clarity. The chimes ring true and sound true to life. I can hear the etching being made by the strings on the instruments. I can tell how far they are pulling and pushing the strings.....
I thought it was all over, and while sitting back letting the music wash over me... Movement 3 started. The IEMs perfectly replicated the music as it was being played. No notes were meshed together. No sounds went unnoticed and the sound was full, lush, perfect.

I know the structure of this little enlightenment isn't all that great nor is the sentence structure lol; I'm just too excited to care right now. These headphones have changed how I listen to music.

would the removable cable be the same as the custom model cable?

After reading from all the "IEM appreciation threads" I do think that these would be it... well are they???
Types of music I listen to: acoustic/alternative/unplugged/sessions (lots of Dave Matthews Band type of genre). I love 10,000 Maniacs and Natalie Merchant's vocals. It's one of those female vocals that I could just listen to for hours.
My current rig: Gen2 iTouch > TWag LOD > Protector (cable and amp are still in burn-in period)
I'm looking forward to get one this weekend when I get to NY.

Thank you in advance...

UM3X is simply fantastic for anything acoustic. Assuming it's well recorded and produced. Badly produced album shows up pretty easy. I never had a problem with Radiohead until the UM3X showed that Ok computer wasn't that well produced of an album.

I was absolutely gobsmacked the other day with mine - with a 50 year old recording! Kathy's Waltz from Dave Brubecks "Time Out" - the brushes on the skins were so immediate and natural. Bass solid too, although overall I don't love the sound of the sax or piano on the recording.

But those drums.

Anyway, I agree, acoustic stuff is brilliant on these IEMs!
