Hi,

I searched around on Ebay and i'm doubting to buy one of the following portable headphones :

AKG K420
AKG K181

AUDIO-TECHNICA ATH-ES7

GRADO SR60
GRADO SR80

I have a few questions :
1 which would you prefer as best sound quality
2 which one plays loudest on an mp4 player & laptop

At the moment my preference goes to the ATH-ES7 (great design) but I don't know how this models performs in comparision with the others mentionned, the design is not the most important offcourse

Anyone compared some of the above or has some in his collection?

Thanks!!!
Cheers,

Just b e careful on the ES7's, there are plenty of fakes on the market! How's about ditching the Grado's for the Alessandro MS-1 headphones? According to their rep, they fall between the 80's and 125's! Grado's are fairly easy to drive.

The AKG's offer good, deep sound. it's not an easy one. just beware of those fake ES7!!

just wondering, is the concern about volume based on your player's battery life? otherwise, i would go with the grados since they have a fun sound that can span a good amount of music and still have synergy

i'm not a fan of the akg dj headphones personally so i might be a little biased

No, the volume concern was based on the weak output of laptops built in soundcards in general. I think the Audio-technica ATH-ES7 (30 ohm) will be a real one, the seller is from Germany with waranty, if it was from China I would doubt it

eBay.be: Audio-technica ATH-ES7 WH ATH Kopfhörer mit Garantie (object 380001347220 eindtijd 24-mei-09 12:08:20 CEST)

I have an AKG K24P (cheap one of €30) but great sound for the money, cable is almost dead.

This AKG 420 here is 30 ohm, it will not be much of difference of loudness for only 2 ohm?

On the other hand I doubt with the Grado SR60 cause of "STEREOPHILE "PRODUCT OF THE YEAR"' by many magazines, see eBay.be: Grado Prestige Series SR60 On Ear Headphones NEW (object 370162203316 eindtijd 21-mrt-09 21:24:42 CET)

Would the quality be so much better then my cheap AKG K24p of €30, wich has allready a warm sound, vibrant bass, and plays loud?
I use it for MP3 on my laptop & MP3 player.

If I would go for design I would guess on the metallic Audio-Technica
If I would go for the "stereophile" sound i would guess on the awarded SR60
Or I could stay with my AKG brand which i'm satisified of and buy the 420

Not easy to choose, Audio-Technica - AKG - GRADO damnnn!!!!
