Thread Starter
hello guys, kinda new hear at your forums. well i broke the generic earphones that came with my walkman phone and i'm looking for a good replacement on-ear buds. i live in the philippines, so probably non-popular brands are hard to find here. brands that are easy to find here are sony, philips, skullcandy, jvc and some senns... please advice if you know a good one. thanks!

If you can find them, FWIR Koss KSC-75s are the best. However, these may end up being a little over $25 because of where you live. The problem is, under that there really isn't anything worth getting that is on-ear.

I think there are HD201s at The Fort or Rockwell. I forgot which. And this would be irrelevant if you aren't near Manila...

I forgot to check last time I went there...

I did see Portapros at an SM, for 2000 pesos though.

there are HD201s in most of the apple stores. some koss headphones sold in 5th ave stores, they have clip-ons, i think it's the ksc7, not sure how hat compares to the ksc75 though

$25 bucks is tough.

The cheapest for decent performance would be the HD201s. I haven't heard them myself, but have credible sources that recommend this for budget phones. The person recommending them isn't a fan of sennheiser, but couldn't discount the performance/price on the HD201s

Stretch it to 40 for the PX100's, or get IEM's like the J2's. Don't touch the HD201 if you like bass. Those have absolutely no bass. I can't really vouch for the KSC75's, but they're supposedly good for rock.

Maybe putting your source and listening preference will help.

I've heard all of the mentioned ones, and my recommendation would be either the HD201, or SoundMAGIC P10 (can be ordered from MP4nation for less than $24, with free shipping. I'm not sure if it's free Worldwide shipping... although I'd guess it is).

For the price the HD201 is very good but don't expect miracles

koss ksc75 hands down. If not, get yourself a pair of sennheiser px100s for cheap

PX100s here (in the philippines) cost at least $50-$70 bucks, there are no KSC75s here, just the KSC7 which costs $12 bucks

there are only two places you can get stuff cheap, the internet and hong kong

Although I did/do like the KSC 75 I got my girlfriend. Here's a review at macworld. Major props to the lifetime "no questions asked" warrantee, she definitely needs that! It's complimentary to the HD201 (which is a closed can and blocks outside noise a little) because it's open, yet has a strong bass response. Fun!

Never heard of the SoundMAGIC besides from you TopPop, what do you like about them?

The JVC marshmallows have popped up in threads from time to time. They're a hybrid between normal ear-buds and in-ear canalphones (so they block a little noise but they're more comfy because they don't go in as far), and some say they sound good for the price. I'm a bit beyond this price bracket now, so maybe someone else can weigh in with an opinion on the JVC marshmallow?

Bingo.

And they've only gotten better with time. The entire spectrum is very good, but the midrange is just... well... lovely for the price! Heck, it's just lovely, period!

The HD201 isn't that good at all imo. The KSC-75 will sound a lot better. I even preferred my modded KSC-75 to the PX100.
