quick question regarding fiio E5 and shure se530.

hey guys,

i didnt want to hi-jack a thread with this so i thought id post a thread for a quick answer.

i just ordered the fiio e5 and im now wondering if i should have bothered?

basically im using a cowon D2 and shure se530, this is what worries me, my plan was to buy a really cheap amp to deliver more bass to my headphones because the D2 gets really shy below 30hz. will this little amp help me??

my worry is that its going to hiss uncontrollably, i have two impedance adapters so some hiss will not bother me, will the e5 give me what i want ( more sub bass 30hz and below ) or have i just wasted £20 quid for no improvement??

i would have posted this question in another thread but i thought a thread of its own will help cheer me up a little. tell me good things guys!!

you'll definetely get more hiss but nothing an impedance adapter wont cure to a satisfactory level . and the e5's bass boost is definetely worthwhile, i too use a D2 and listen to dubstep 90% of the time which is centered on its basslines and i wont even listen to music anymore without the e5 but i work in a Very loud factory so volume matters alot to me

And for 20 bucks even if you dont like it you could always sell it to a friend for the same price

hey, thanks for the reply, i received the amp today and to be honest im shocked how black it is, its soundfloor is really quiet, it only hisses when theres no music playing and you turn it a good way up, but at reasonable volume it hisses less than my D2, strange huh.

as for the sound improvements, they are very very small but when you turn the bass boost feature on its as you say, night and day between the D2 and amp, it is just much more powerful sounding which is nice, the music is fuller and it kicks harder which is what i craved, that was the only downfall with my D2 it just didnt provide thump for my music preference.

im more than happy with my £20 quid, i didnt expect huge improvements but for what i wanted it for ( more bass ) its certainly providing. and its pleasantly black which i like ( sound not colour.)

ya i just wish fiio made a version of the E5 that didn't have the spring loaded clip on the back nor the hump that it attaches too .. nearly doubles its thickness If it didn't have that i'd use some double sided rubber tape and just stick it to the back my my D2

whats stopping you stickin it to the D2 from the otherside, i know its not pretty but it should work,

im trying to figure out an effective way of connecting the two myself, anyone got any ideas. double sided tape seams a little weak, and no super glue is not an option lol

update: turns out super glue was an option and a darn good one, ive officially loctite super glued my £20 quid amp to my cowon D2 forever, i think i should have used a weaker glue tho because its rock solid on, if i ever want it off i have no doubt the amp will take the d2 casing with it. looks pretty good tho.
