quick fiio E5 question.

hey guys,

i didnt want to hi-jack a thread with this so i thought id post a thread for a quick answer.

i just ordered the fiio e5 and im now wondering if i should have bothered?

basically im using a cowon D2 and shure se530, this is what worries me, my plan was to buy a really cheap amp to deliver more bass to my headphones because the D2 gets really shy below 30hz. will this little amp help me??

my worry is that its going to hiss uncontrollably, i have two impedance adapters so some hiss will not bother me, will the e5 give me what i want ( more sub bass 30hz and below ) or have i just wasted £20 quid for no improvement??

i would have posted this question in another thread but i thought a thread of its own will help cheer me up a little. tell me good things guys!!

it's all good. The fiio has pretty good quiet sound, shouldn't be a problem. Any amp is going to improve the bass a little, the fiio is not a huge amp or even as big as some portable amps but it has plenty of guts especially for easy to drive cans like Grados it does decently. You're only out $20 if you don't like the Fiio.

Edit: probably any amp will improve the Shures, they're tiny. That being said when you get the money RSA and iBasso make some amps purpose built for IEMS that are pretty sensitive and might perform higher.

^^ thanks guys for the kind responses, i received the amp today and your right im pleasantly suprised how black it is compared to straight out of the D2 i honestly expected it to hiss like mad but any improvement is an improvement and its is nicely black and clean, IE minimal hiss.

as to wether it improves sound, in my opinion yes it does. with the bass boost function it does give me the bass back i miss from my 5.5g ipod which i never thought id miss, the D2 dont thump like an ipod but now it does. not only is it more powerful but it actually sounds more powerful like theres plenty of juice in reserve with vey little distortion, if any.

thanks for the replies, im happy for my £20 quid for sure. its a very subtle improvement but subtle improvements make huge differences in this range of headphones. cheers.

i should point out with the bass boost function switched off its hard to detect differences against the D2 but as i said i did crave more thump in low end and it does this nicely, my first amp!! and not my last...unfortunately lol

The E5 really doesn't truly do much, but at least, in my opinion, it is the only real, convenient, really small and transportable amp there is. Very small, well made, adds some volume, a very slight touch of bass, a volume control, that's it.

Doesn't do much, but does enough to justify an acquisition, in my opinion.

This portable amp fits in any pocket, or to the back of any player, without adding much weight...

FiiO needs to introduce more of them. Nice to know you like your E5.
