MHDT Havana vs. Stello DA100 - $1000.00(ish) DAC Showdown! - Page 2

One thing the DA100 is missing is a 24/96 setting, 24/192 is too much for well recorded music. Its great for old scratchy Billie Holiday tracks but in general it causes everything to sound too rolled off.

S1rrah, since you owned a Paradisea before, how does that compare to the Stello?

That might be hard to get past me.

As for the Havana/WA5 pairing, that will definitely be paired up at the next mini-mini-meet with a pair of HD800s! I have to hear that combination.

All the comments made regarding the Havana also hold true with the Paradisea variants. Although the Paradisea lacks the Havana's detail and especially it's low level resolution. The Paradisea is not far behind the Havana ... but it is a noticeably less refined machine.

Had I a choice between the DA100 and a Paradisea? I'd most likely take the Paradisea if only because I'm inclined towards the sweet/warm side of the sonic spectrum more than anything else. And I love being able to tailor the sound via tube rolling.

The removal of the OPAMP circuit in the Havana does indeed equal a quite bit of improving over the Paradisea, though ...

Thanks for the review I indeed love my Havana but it's good to see a different take and something to compare it to.

I wonder what a sensible upgrade is over the Havana. The Audio Gd Ref 1 looks and sounds mighty good from the reviews. You can also switch between oversampling and non-oversampling modes!

For headphone listening, I'm pretty sure the 1000 dollar mark is where I stop when it comes to DACs. And also, for my particular income level and budget.

If I were stank'n rich(tm) and could afford a fly speaker setup then god only knows how much I'd be willing to spend.

Great writeup, my friend. I'm not surprised by the results.

Now I know what you guys were cooking up while I was off playing computer-builder.

Great review, thanks!

Stello DA100 price under 700$ and the design, the newer DA100 Sig have more feature and better sound than DA100. 1000$ vs 6xx$ price, not the 1000$ show down

At these heights ... everything blurs ...

So deal with it.

I'm rounding up.

xxxxer!

Pardon me but isn't a comparison with the similarly priced DA100 Signature would be more fair? We are talking about the standard (and cheaper) DA100 here no?

Anyone ever bother to roll that tube in the Havana? Is it a cheap Chinese or Russian tube that could be replaced with a European or American tube?

That's what I was thinking, although the end result probably wouldn't be much different. I think it's the tube output that's winning over the OP.
