Hey man if you are wanting to spend 300$ don'y buy beats you're better of buying a hat, they save the same purpose look stylish on your head. I got these a while http://www.theboom.com/v/products/theboom-quiet.html Boom quiets they are very good may be pricey but 50$ cheaper than studios and worth it.

I have beats tours and XB700s, and the XBs sound quality is way better than the beats. However, I like the sound signature of the beats better, the bass and everything. I can tell that the sounds muddy and stuff, but you jsut cant help to like them :P

And I dont think i'll ever be able to get better looking headphones too...

However, the price the Beats are going for is a big no-no for their sound.

The Beats get trashed pretty good in this forum, and although I'm no expert, I did sample them at the local best buy with my ipod a couple months back when I was shopping for a new set and did not think they were *that* bad.  Certainly is was an improvement over my crappy ear buds, but they were not my cup of tea.  Too much emphasis on bass, with an overall muddled sound.

Anyway, bottom line, 300 bucks for these is ridiculous, I paid a third of that for my M50's which sound great.  If I had more money to spend, I would have also considered the DT770

s (80 ohm version).

Just saying, Beats can be had for $175 on Ebay... and IMO the Studios blow the XB Series away in every aspect except bass quantity. The XBs are not audiophile headphones IMO.

The Beats look awesome.  But if your goal is to look awesome, you should get yourself a nice pair of designer jeans and Sony MDR-V600.  Those are going to get you close to the Beats sound for $70.

To people who think that Beats sound "muddy" ...

These cans were approved by one of the most respected producers in hip hop history.

People who listen to hip hop like to have bass.

How ridiculous is it for you to go up to Dr. Dre and tell him that he's listening to his own music wrong?

I'll approve your....whatever questionably phallic shaped hat for small children....as long as you pay me cash.

*COUGH* Maybe you should ask Monster how much they paid him to wear their headphones. wink_face.gif

*cough* and you seriously think that Dr Dre, as a well respected producer, actually uses this in his spare time?

I stopped by Best Buy today. Out of curiosity I ventured over and tried on all the Beats By Dre models they had out. Each one was on my ears maybe 20 second each. They will never touch my ears again. I actually laughed out loud when I looked at the price of the one pair. $399  blink.gif. The sounds like mud reference I keep seeing when talking about these things...well...I understand now 100%.

And without a doubt the only time Dr. Dre lets these things touch his head is when someone is shoving money in his pockets for doing so.

I have a friend who mostly listens to hiphop.  She did some research when buying headphones and shelled out for beats.  The $400 ones, I think.  She tried my Shure SRH750DJ headphones yesterday.  She thinks they sound really good.  Don't know what you want to make of that, but I think it's a good starting point.

While Shure is a relatively new player in headphone market, they're well proven in IEMs, mics, rack-mount mixers, and other pro-audio gear.  These guys don't mess around, and the quality is excellent.  They expect professionals to use and like their equipment, and design it with that in mind.

Contrast this with Monster, also relatively new to the headphone market.  Monster makes a living by selling overpriced cables to people, claiming that they'll make an "unbelievable" difference.  The actual difference is virtually unmeasurable, and sometimes Monster is worse than no-name cables.  On top of this, they're paying Dr. Dre for the use of his name, and passing the "savings" on to you.

In short, who would you go with?  The no nonsense pro-audio company with a proven record?  Or the retail, overpriced cable company?

I'm sure this argument applies to many others, not just Shure vs. Monster.  This is why The Beats don't get any love around here.

P.S. As an example of monster "Quality," take their DVI-HDMI adaptors.  I was doing near-field EMI testing of a DVI-HDMI link recently and found that the worst leak in the entire chain was the DVI-HDMI adaptor.  After more inspection, it turned out that Monster DVI-HDMI adaptors leak worse than any others we had, including several unbranded ones.  Of course we had several pro-video ones in the mix.  Just another example of how pro electronics will beat out "high-end" retail electronics almost every time.

Everyone knows this is a year and a half old thread right?

I listened to beats and while I think they are too expensive for the performance, I don't think they are that bad. The only problem I had with them (which may not be accurate since it's not personal experience) is a lot of my friends own them and they don't last long.

I don't mind if it's interesting. The post that woke this thread up was interesting to me...  Boom quiets LOL sounds bipolar
