I didn't expect much difference either, I mainly bought the D10 for it's smaller size (only slightly more than 1/3 of the D1) and the longer battery lifes (almost twice as long).
hmm~ I never knew D10 is that much smaller than D1 before seeing your pic and the twice longer battery life is superb! It's already a huge upgrade for my portable needs even IF they sound the same.
If you use it USB in there will be a fair difference. I used it optical and with the hiflight chipset in the D1 I was very hard pushed to hear a difference to the D1 with stock opamps.
