Loads of like priced phones in the market. Until people start buying and posting results I'll just eat my popcorn.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Shure SRH 440 Professional Studio Headphones (Black)
Shure SRH240 Professional Quality Headphones (Black)

This is very true. Sennheiser, AKG, Audio Technica are all excellent examples of this type of cross-pollination. It would not be surprising if Shure joins the club. That being said, it often takes years to develop a new driver, even for a company with years of experience in such design. At any rate, I can speculate that it wouldn't be long that some Head-fier gets a Shure headphone, cracks it open, posts pictures all over and renders a verdict on the authenticity and lineage of the drivers.

I will almost certainly try the 840. I am always on the lookout for really good closed headphones. I wish the impedance were a little more OTL friendly, but I still am interested to try these.

If they just would be a tiny bit less fugly... the non-design is really a repellent for me. Ah well, hope I can hear them soon.

If these are as good as they sound, I'm gonna go for it especially b/c it's going to be 160 USD

Although, they're not discounting general consumers, I believe they are more targeted for studio engineers, thus the more professional look. Of course, I wouldn't rock them in public, though.

Well, being an audio engineer I would consider myself a professional... but the design still sucks big time.

I know you'll still pick one up if it proves to be as good as it's told.

Agree! The looks certainly leaves something to be desired. The visible cables may also create an additional problem -- accidental breakage. The SRH840 is also quite heavy. I'd say that it's not as handsome as ATH-M50 but is better than German Maestro.

Very interesting headphones, and I'm curious about the se530 comparisons. Does that mean that the mids of these will be excellent?

I wonder if the new Fiio E7 can drive the SRH440
