Good Computer Power supply - Page 2

PC Power & Cooling silencers are quite a bit quieter than their turbo-cool line. They're still not quite completely silent, but I prefer them to everything else.

PC Power & Cooling makes the best power supplies. They're rock solid and will last through several iterations of your box.

If you have to go with a quiet option, then look at the offerings from SilenX. Their fans are wonderful, too.

Xigmatek & Enermax make some of the best P/S as well.

BFG LS series has gotten some really good reviews. I recently upgraded from a 3 year old OCZ 520ADJ SLI PSU to a BFG MX680 modular PSU. The BFG MX series is just a modular version of the LS series. The effect on audio has been outstanding, bass, sound clarity and soundstage all increased. The change in my AD700 cans was amazing. I had an idea in my mind of what an upgrade from the AD700 to AD900 would sound like. After installing the BFG PSU my AD700's surpassed what I thought the AD900 would sound like. Probably a stupid thing to say but its how I feel. I am very very happy with my current setup. The thing that really amazes me is that my OCZ PSU was not junk, not even close to being junk. It was just old. The thing that really attracted me to the BFG LS and MX PSU's was low power ripple they had on all their power rails. Then came the glowing reviews of these PSU's on HARDOCP and Anandtech. I can't say for certain that the low power ripple is the reason I'm getting such good audio results. It could very well be a case of newer and improved technology or maybe my OCZ PSU was just getting old. Take your time reading reviews of PSU's and make sure you are happy with what you are paying for, the PSU is as important as any other component in your computer. If you decide on BFG I would stay away from the GS series and focus the LS and MX series.

I currently use the Corsair HX-620 and like it. In addition to its high power reserve, it's quiet at stock, seems to deliver clean stable power (further attested by SPCR) and its modular cabling is a boon for cable management.

Previously I was using an Antec TruePower until I replaced it with the higher-powered Corsair last year. Assuming Antec has maintained their quality of products since the TruePower (which I have had for 5 years and counting), I heartily recommend them as well.

Cheers!

SilenX are a bunch of ripoffs...AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. False CFM and db ratings and shiesty quality with ridiculous price tags...not worth it. Do NOT get sucked in to their lying business model.
