Sikth...What next?

A few months ago, I posted a thread asking for metal suggestions:

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f9/wan...09/index2.html

Anyways, after trying a few of the suggestions, the only one that I really like is Sikth.

Of course, they have disbanded. Can anyone suggest what I should try next that I might like?

Most recently, you might like Lazarus Bird from Burst and Cosmogenesis from Obscura.

Other bands you might like -

Arcturus
Direwolf
Vulture Industries
Atrox (the Norwegian one)
Stolen Babies
Baroness
Psychotic Waltz
To-Mera
Behold... the Arctopus
Spastic Ink

I could name drop a few dozen other typical tech bands that you see in threads like this, but there isn't anything particularly unique about most of them.

On the non-metal side, Laya by Pochakaite Malko is totally worth a listen. I had this band recommended to me recently and I couldn't be happier.

x2 on the Burst recommendation. Lazarus Bird might be my favorite release of 2008 in any genre.

I saw that you are looking for technical proficiency, and you have a preference towards clean vocals....the first band that comes to my mind is Zero Hour. Zero Hour are a very technically proficient Prog Metal band. They have changed vocalists a couple times, but they have all been very good.

On the heavier side, I'd recommend Strapping Young Lad (self-titled). I can't think of many vocalists with more "presence" than Devin Townsend, and their drummer is one of the pioneers in the genre.

I'd also recommend "Precambrian" by The Ocean. Precambrian is 2 CD's - the first disc is very heavy, and the second disc is progressive metal with strings and piano. Mix of clean and harsh vocals, but it's really unique and interesting.

Also "Kezia" by Protest the Hero. Protest the Hero are a Prog-metal/mathcore band with clean vocals.

That reminds me... if you check out Zero Hour and like them, look into Degree Absolute - they are similar in many ways.

Two other bands worth looking into -

Spiral Architect
Twisted Into Form

The first is probably one of the more technical things you'll hear in the context of metal, and the latter is sort of like Spiral Architect meets Extol.

I'm now looking for bands that I might like given that I think Sikth are great

Come to think of it, you should check out a group called Cyclamen. I don't think they have any full length albums out, but they do have a EP and you can listen to some songs on their MySpace page - Cyclamen. It's very Sikth-like, and Mikee Goodman actually sings on it. It's still not as good though.

Outside of that, I've never really been able to draw a direct parallel to Sikth, at least not with their first album, The Trees Are Dead and Dried Out, Wait for Something Wild. They really did have a fairly unique thing going there.

However, you might like the following acts, coming purely from Sikth -

Periphery
Fellsilent
TesseracT (make sure you get the right one @ TesseracT)

Add another to the list - Scarve.

Irradiant is a ****ing amazing album.

I thought it would be good to give some closure to this thread. I've bought and listened to a few CDs since posting the OP. Many of the bands suggested were very good but not quite what I was looking for (LAYA by pochakaite malko was incredible BTW).

The band that I felt best captured the essence of Sikth is The Arusha Accord. Sikth fans should try out their new(ish) album.
