for those who say it's bright, i cannot agree more. changing from the hd 580 to the ad900 was quite harsh for me at first, but the sound stage and clarity are awesome.
it can run well without an amp, but after putting just a voyager in, i have to say the difference is clearly audible!

I want to try mine with an amp too. I'm sure that it will make a lot of difference.

As someone here said before, every little change in the system can be heard through these headphones.

Brightness was very annoying in my case, but as soon as i started playing music instead of pink noise it got better, now sibilance has almost disappeared and treble is much softer. It sounds great on my Sansa Clip. I still wish it was a bit less bright though, but burn in might no be over.

By the way has anyone tried the AD900 with a Cowon DAP? Does it sound better than a less powerful player? (such as the Clip)

I cannot say they are superior headphones to the other headphones that I had tried so far in my sig, but they are certainly one of my two favorites. There is something very special about the AD900 that I cannot describe well in words

It is very glad as the same AD900 user.

It is compared in Japan with AD700 and AD1000, and the unobtrusive presence.

If it adds it to AD900 a little, no be known in Japan probably because of that can buy AD1000 either.

As for AD900, it is light, and the balance of the sound is also good though it has AD900 and AD700.

I'm not sure yet if i prefer my AD900 to my Phonaks but i enjoy it well.
I just hope the main things that still bother me a bit (brightness and sibilance) will completely disappear but i hear less sibilance on this track than a few days ago:
Jadakiss - One More Step (Album Version Explicit) - The Last Kiss (Explicit Version) | Deezer
If someone can tell if he hears sibilance at 1.45 when Jada says "Just one more step".

Just using streaming audio from that site, I hear just a little bit of sibilance using headphone out from my PowerBook and Carat-Peridot. However, it is much smoother using EF1.

Now, with other headphones that I have, they all seem to have sibilance at that part of the song in certain extent. From less sibilance to more sibilance:

HD600 < K501 < DT880 < AD900

So, I guess you could say the highs of AD900 is a bit bothering (not to my ears but relatively speaking).

Do you have CD or that track as in mp3/flac. Because I think there is sibilance due to the fact that it is streaming audio or that they were recorded like that from the beginning.

Oh, and a side note, I don't listen to hiphop/rap much but this song was best on DT880.

Wow great answer thank you man

Yeah you're right it's slightly less agressive when playing the 320K MP3. It's still a bit sibilant though. But as you said it must be part of the song, i can notice it too with my Phonaks. I'm not sure if i can upload it for you here, do you want me to PM you a megaupload link with the track?
I had the DT880, i agree it was more balanced for rap, but i prefer the AD900 as it sounds good unamped.

After getting these new just a few hours ago in the mail, i thought i should reread most of the ad900 threads. So far i already like the sound even though i have no clue what it will sound like in.. 95 or so hours. The Clarity is far above my older HD-555, and the instrument seperation is very nice. Luckily it seems my head falls under what the AT designers used as a generic head model because i barely feel the thing except around my ears which isn't painful at all.

However at the moment i'm noticing i have to have the volume much higher than i did with the 555's, i guess those 3 (the box claims it is 53) extra ohms must be kicking my 2 year old x-fi(extremegamer) around n_n.
Perhaps this will clear itself away after it finishes burning in, but that also leaves me with a question of pink/white noise or just random music after reading some of the comments here.

I had these pics lying around from when I took them ages ago. Figured people interested in the AD900 might be interested to get an idea of size etc. And of course, most of all, after seeing the shiny ... must get the precious....

DT770/80 Pro, AD900, Sony XD400

Wow, look how huge those earpads are compared the beyers, and even the sonys. I didn't realize there was that much of a difference until seeing them side by side like that. That was the main thing I didn't like about the AD900s, and ultimately why I sent them back. I don't know why AT can't make them smaller, they're way too big. You can see especially in the last picture that the sound hole is actually relatively small. There's just a lot of excess padding and fabric, and I think the flat contour of it instead of the more rounded contour like in the other phones doesn't help, either. Great sound, though, thanks for the pics.

There was an opinion that the size of CAN was too large.
The adoption of the difference of the size of the driver unit and the magnesium frame (It is the same as a high-ranking model) is advantages of AD900.
As for the size, no do be known certainly so.

I thought that the parallel linking the free adjustment of Sony was also excellent.
However, 3D method wing support of AT is suitable for use for a further long time.

It might be suitable for movie watching though XD400 has been heard in the shop.

XD400=260g , Driver Unit 50mm
AD900=250g , Driver Unit 53mm

By the way, XD400 is 7,500yen in Japan. AD900 is 19,000yen.
DT770/80 Pro is 20,000yen or more ..a regular agency it...

Yeah the earpads are quite huge; it's literally the size of a CD. They do kind of envelope you though, make you feel really immersed. My ears sat or rested a bit on the drivers and they hurt after a while. So in these pics the pads are slightly more 'fluffy'? I guess than stock because I stuffed it with the mod that has you stick in silicone/diver tubing for distance. Usually the inner area sort of angles inwards towards the entrance where your ears stick in.

That's a decent price Iizuka, I no longer have these, but I bought them from pricejapan.com 2 years ago. The AD900s came to around $230 shipped. Last month I checked from the same folks, it was at least $280 shipped, but I suspect it has more to do with the weaker dollar against the yen.
