I tried to google it and search it on these forums, but couldn't get any hits. I want to know what's the difference between the two versions.

Actually there are four (4) different models.
Where the SR-007 and SR-007BL are often referred to as MK1, while the SR-007A and SR-007MK2 are referred to as MK2.

1997-2007
* SR-007 -> Brown leather/cable and champagne housing (picture)
* SR-007BL -> Black leather/cable and champagne housing (picture of my pair)

2007-
* SR-007A -> Black leather/cable and silver housing (picture)
* SR-007MK2 -> Black leather/cable and black housing (picture)

There are audible differences between the MK1 and MK2 (I have been told), and some prefer one while others prefer the other.

I think he's after the physical differences that create the sound differences, krmathis.

I'm pretty sure they can be found by searching within http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f113/s...ad-new-223263/

So, for instance posts like http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f113/s...ml#post4703345

Thanks. I'll see what I can dig up.

can somebody expand on the sound differences between the 2?
Are the 007 and 007 BL different from the A and MK2? (sound wise).
Is A the same as MK1?

SR-007 and SR-007BL are identical except color
SR-007A and SR-007Mk2 are identical except color

The Mk1 and Mk2/A are more similar then not but the Mk2/A introduces a midbass hump, lacks bass clarity and has a rather nasty if subtle midrange coloration.

Spritzer;

Somewhere in that huge stax thread don't you have a mod to help the newer Omega's sound like the earlier? I admit to only browsing the stax thread. I dream, don't own yet.

It's located on another site but it will make the Mk2/A sound almost the same as the Mk1. The drivers are slightly different on the new sets and there is nothing I can do about that, so they sound just a bit more forward.

I have SR-007Mk2 arriving soon so once I've done modding them I'll probably post the whole process here.

Besides the color difference, I believe the following is also true:

The 007A is supposed to be sold only in Japan, the Stax warranty on it is only good in Japan, and the included documentation is in Japanese only.

I am a very lucky head-fi'er, having the Spritzer-modded 007A done by the esteemed Spritzer himself; it is one amazing headphone. I haven't heard the Mk1 to compare it to, but I can't imagine it could be much better.

The Stax "A" models are for the Japanese market only and are only avaialable in silver. The "II" units (which has in most cases nothing to do with Mk2 status as many of the amps are new designs, 323 and 727 for instance) are for the export markets and available both in silver and also black. The same was said to be true about the SR-007II but I haven't yet seen one in silver.

That SR-007A should be very similar to a Mk1, only a bit more forward.

I started a thread on these mods some time back

http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f113/t...estion-381975/

Of course Stax no longer make the Mk1 so it's just as good that some of the mods work.
