i am tired now, i was testing 15 different tube matchings for this amp last night and my wife has not seen my face for a while.I dont want to go to details it would be a too long report.I had Los Gatos branded 5R4GY on my stock its a RCA tube.Ask Christof if it suits for this amp but it works nice.At last i can now recommend a combination of Los Gatos/Lewis Kaufman/RCA tube with the original Chinese 812A.This was the most detailed "in there" combo of all others.Tube freaks know that RCA 5R4GY is close or even better than Western Electric 274b.

edit:
WE 422A tube with United Electronics V70D/812H would be a nice to test
but where do you find these tubes

one of the first thoughts i had with Silvercore , would there ever be a headphone that give full respond to this amp. Grado GS-1000 is a dream match.I tried last night Grado 325 i with this amp but couldnt listen to it ,5 minutes later i had to take the phones off.In Germany they quote 325i-GS1000 almost at the same , that must be a joke.On my other amp Trafomatic head one the difference between these headphones was not night and day so i understand the ratings in Germany.Does somebody have a explanation to this .Grado GS-1000 is with Silvercore neutral- balanced-smooth top end- no sibilance-huge soundstage you can call it a dream team.Grado 325 i sound is almost opposite to GS 1000 with Silvercore, completely out of balance-odd soundstage-hard in middle so i can not listen to it.There is a huge difference with Silvercore between these headphones. I have a "feeling" or thought ,could the new Grado PS-1000 be audio heaven with this amp.

edit:a friend of me had a listen yesterday. To put it simple Grado 325 i problem is that you can not put an elephant in the shoe box this headphone goes out of control with Silvercore.Use only top end headphones with this amp.

got an email today. The Finnish "canjam"will be held on 6.6.2009 in Helsinki Finland. As far as i know on that show will be top gear from companys such as Singlepower,Zana Deux,Woodaudio,Gilmore etc.Top headphones from companys as Grado (PS-1,HP-1000),
Sennheiser,Ultrasone 9,8? etc.The Finnish "Hifiharrastajat" "audioclub" of Finland invited me to participate on it.I wish that someone of them will write a report from that show and maybe Silvercore to Head-fi.So far my report is not enough objective because nobody else had heard this amp, its good to have other opinions from other people .I take my digital camera to that show and will take pictures how people will be floored ,that would be nice pictures.I can also maybe test these amps with other important headphones.

Be sure to tell us how the other amps fare against the Silvercore.

That is exactly the type exposure this product needs - a true measure of how it measures against the top available products, and I look very much forward to opinions. Meet conditions are not ideal for critical comparisons, so take that with a grain of salt, as it just adds a level of complexity to the result.

I wrote to Christof to investigate if it is possible to have headphone jacks on the face plate. The answer is to have all desirable headphone jacks (3pin balanced, 4 pin, TRS..) built into a separate box that hooked up to the amp - for another 600 Euro.

I think this is one of the major downside for headphone listeners like me. Sure, if I can listen to the amp personally for 1 month I may end up willing to live with all the inconvenience for the sound I hear..... Looks like day dreaming.

I will appear on that show with the following tubes
Matched pair branded Electronic Enterprises/Rca 812A same date codes
and with 5U4G RCA 1951 KUHL tube.
The Rca 812A tube is better than the chinese 812A,i will not use it anymore. On the picture you see the RCA 812A tube wich appearance is close to 300B.
On the power supply you can see Mullard black base.

had the opportunity today have a listen to this amp with professional studio headphone no brand name on it only marked PRO 2.I wanted only to check out how balanced this amp is.My friend and me noted that this amp is very balanced. My friend had never heard a soundstage like this.It was also very dynamic with this phones. All other features wich i have mentioned earlier where present. This is a good sign because i receive in the near future the Ultrasone 8 headphone.I wanted with this test only make shure that this is not a one headphone amplifier. Have also noted that the amp is very quite.Cold start to full performance takes about 25-30 minutes.

update:the russian military rectifier 5u3c /450-550V is a perfect match with RCA 812A on this amp. This tube combination gives the most realistic -in front of you- performance with unbelievable huge soundstage. On Chesky's 10th Anniversary record the soundstage is almost parallel to my loudspeakers.I will play this combination on the Finnish CanJam.

I listened to Silvercore at Helsinki Hifiharrastajat can-meeting. I had some of my "reference records" with me. These records consist of orchestral, piano, vocal, organ and opera music. I had an opportunity to hear Silvercore for about half an hour.

Silvercore is definitely a great amp. Soundstage is big and it has plenty of air around instruments. "Naturality" is a good word to describe the sound of this amp. Silvercore handled complex orhestral pieces with ease and authority. Musical ideas were represented beautifully especially with Denon headphones.

It appeared that Grado GS1000 is not an ideal headphone for Silvercore. With Grados there were some problems with both piano and tenor voice. Voices were too ummm.. metallic and thin. These problems vanished with modified Denon cans. (Sorry, I dont know which cans and mods.) Denon's soundstage was smaller, but still big.

There would be one thing at my wish list. Music should be a bit more emotional and exiting (and I dont mean my records), but this is just my preference not any Silvercores problem.

I did not know amps price before I just saw it in this thread. I really thought it would be even higher. This amp look btw much better live than photos. I hope to hear Silvercore again later.
