EDIT: Ical, can you look through the mesh and see if the drivers have a bronze coloured ring in there? My current RS1 have it but my past buttonless pair did not (they were only silver).
Another set of pic for your reference. Yes, there's a bronze ring.

Those look absolutely IDENTICAL to my pair, wood and all. The only difference is the color of the L&R.

Definitely late Vintage A... the only difference between ours is the wood box! As you can see from my picture in my sig, you can see that my drivers / silk look EXACTLY the same!

I think you may have my RS1's older brother!

And I just really want to thank everyone here for all of these wonderful pictures and information. It's so great to start seeing people adopting this naming structure and submit new phones for classification!

EDIT: Cardude, that's the older RS1 box and those look pretty old... I think you've probably got a Vintage S there!

I saw this over in the HD800 thread, and thought I'd post it here for those of you who are avoiding that whole... thing. Rightly so.

Group Test: Hi-fi headphones - AVReview Accessories reviews

I think this will put a smile on the face of any RS1 lover.

My friends and I were just laughing about that article recently. Looks like I should continue saving up for a pair of Vintage RS1 instead of HD800, eh?

Got somebody's toy on loan...

Decided to take pictures of them...the very old RS-1 and the very new RS-1i...colour of headband and wood may not be accurate...don't like to take pictures in fluorescent light but no choice at this time...

I had also read the AVReview.com article - and felt it reflected my feelings about the headphones in the article. What really SCARES me is if they suddenly get a pair of PS1000...........and they are found to topple the RS-1 solidly. Please no. I don't want to spend $1,700 on a headphone.I always think of 1k as my top rational price and have misgivings the couple of times I've even slightly exceeded that amount.

Nice pics!

Are the cups on the new ones slightly deeper, or is it just an optical illusion caused by the angle of the gimbal?

Beautiful pictures! I'm partial to the old school look myself. A friend of mine purchased a brand, spanking new pair of the RS-1 and offered me a 1-for-1 trade for my newly acquired Vintage-A. I just couldn't do it! The Vintage-S are even sexier.

Thanks. The cups are of the same depth, I believe, just as you stated, optical illusion caused by the angle of the gimbal.
