1.5 foot vs 3.0 foot vs etc...

Drew, I'm planning on purchasing some of your ICs (I have some HD650 Blue Dragon v.3 cables...awesome!) but was having a discussion with a local hi-fi dealer. He's a very experienced guy with great ears and he was saying that, up to a point, he's found longer interconnects to sound better. He's really talking about lengths up to about 2m, not incredibly long runs.

What is your experience with this? I only need 1.5 footers for my setup on a rack. I'm going to have quite a bit of "leftover" cable with the 3.0 footers but am willing to do it if it's going to be an improvement in the sound.

While I have you - what's a recommended recable for my GS1000i's? The system is Cambridge 840C => ??? IC (currently Kimber Timbre) => Maxxed WA6SE => GS1000i.

Thanks!

I find interconnect lengths don’t make as much of a difference under 10ft. So the difference between 1.5ft and 3 is irrelevant in my opinion. I find the shorter you can make your speaker cables the better. Get your amps as close to your speakers as possible. This makes a bigger difference. I don’t use digital cables shorter than 1.5m/4.5ft unless the absolutely necessary. It has to do with transmission theory and helps reduce the chance of Jitter. Short Digital cables have a better chance of being kinked. Kinking a digital cable effects he impedance of the cable. As the 75ohm rating is based on the geometry of the cable. Kinking the cable will distort the geometry and effect the impedance.

what about power cables?

Unless you are using fairly small gauge conductor power cords over long lengths, I would not worry about it. My ears are not good enough to hear the difference in sound, for different lengths, of the same power cord. I'm sure someone else will disagree
