Headphones are a serious hobby, but music is a large part of my life.

Serious hobby, but more. This is uncommon stuff, and it is a great conversation starter and social tool. Seat mates and flight staff on planes always comment on the portables, as do folks at the gym.

At home I have taken great care to construct multiple simultaneous HP listening spots, each with its own vol control and comfy place to sit, all sharing the same CD or SACD source. After having another couple over for dinner, it was always "lets watch a DVD", or play Scrabble, bridge, etc. Music was background. If I said "let's listen to this new CD, a killer" maybe I would play one track before people started talking and shifting about. Not any more. I say -- "hey, you've gotta hear xxxx thru these high-end headphones, you will be amazed ... you know, I've got enough for everyone" ... and all of a sudden we are listening to music seriously, maybe 3 or 4 CDs in a row.

Headphones have pushed golf and cooking way down the list. I love this stuff! Thank you Head-Fi, Thank you Jude, Thank you all the folks I bother with PMs, starting with Spritzer ...

I'm not sure if i'd call it a hobby, as that to me seems to suggest that the headphones are the end in themselves. Which to me there not, the music is (the headphones just allow more enjoyement from ths music). I voted for the third option (though I may classify as the fifth as I have on several occasions considered selling my car to fund some audio purchases).

It's one of my current hobbies, so I wouldn't really consider it a light hobby. Although I haven't invested that much money compared to others, in terms of how much money I have I'd consider it a good amount.

When I graduate and get a job, most likely I'll be investing some more in headphones and audio in general.

I'm not heavily invested in most peoples' books but I am heavily invested as a student head-fier. I spent my entire tax refund in the last couple of months only on headphone gear.

Used to be a big deal, but now I don't care if I'm using an ipod bud. Comfort is important if I am wearing one though. If I needed to buy an expensive one in the future it'll probably be for practical purposes, like an iem if I need series isolation or a good phone for mixing. For now though, it's sennheiser mx300 earbuds. This rules out my speaker system though, but I'm not upgrading that either.

Just one of my many hobbies. I am quite content with what I have now.

Headphones and related gear is a serious hobby for me. The degree to which I am invested changes over time. Right now I am buying new cans to replace those that I have sold. But I usually keep at least two sets of high quality phones on hand at all times. I am not a collector, however.

That said, I am far more invested in music than I am in equipment.

Audio is a serious hobby for me, and its one of the ways I unwind from engineering studies...

definitely a large part of my life; well since its now my living; its a huge part, but I do =find time for other things so I dont go nuts. one needs SOME human contact afterall. but like many others here I feel I need to state that even though I spend a large part of my time tweaking; it is still a means to an end it is still all about the music and even more lately, because my rig has got to a point where the gear fades into the background because i'm seriously happy. at least with my portable kit anyway. next stop is more large amounts of money on the home rig.

It's a hobby, and I've pulled back on the investment a bit. I picked up the MDR-7509HD earlier this year for $80, but I haven't bought any other pairs for over a year. I'll finish off the amp projects I've started, but that's about it.

The HD-800 and PS-1000 are interesting, but their prices pushed me into Speaker-Fi. That is where my 2009 audio budget is being spent. After that, I think I'll just invest in racks and build the vinyl and SACD collection. The point of not needing to buy anything more is approaching.

Music is major, listening consumes a large % of time but the economy has pulled my purse strings on equipment. A few sets of tubes is it. Any future investments will be music. My gear is ok. If I get a boon that would allow, I would like to update my DAC but it is low priority compared to the rest of my fiscal duties.

Wow your collection has increased since last summer NJ meet... mine however has dwindled but should be getting a put up a notch once I find a nice Stax phone.
