RS1 Versus RS1i - Page 4

Grados are not mid recessed.  Anything but that.  But the flats give you even more if you want it.  It makes the midrange warmer, thicker and even more forward and even more intimate and in your face.

But if its just for rock, than get the Grado RS1 with buttons.
I had the Grado RS1 with buttons and used both the bowls and flats but preferred the flats because it just wanted gave me that intimate, thick midrange.

Thanks for the reply. I am assuming you have the RS1i? Are the mids that recessed that you have to switch pads if you want them to be good?

It's mainly for Indie/Rock, but I also listen to a lot of Ambient/Post-Rock, acoustic/folk and metal. Just having a hard time choosing the version of the RS1 which is best for my specific needs haha. Appreciate your replies

In my opinion, the flats are the most comfortable out of the other Grado pads. They definitely put your ears closer to the drivers and makes detail and everything about the Grados stand out. The sound becomes exceptionally warmer as well, and it's pretty much in your face.

Flats are comfortable but what it did was boost the midbass, hide the treble, diminish soundstage and removed almost everything I liked about the grado sound. Bowls are by far the best in my opinion, bar none.

Absolutely!

There is nothing better than Grados mated with the right set up... and the stock bowls with the tape mod - clarity, detail, bass, mids, treble... and... soundstage with no stridency.  The flats just obscure all of that with a muddy sound.  Best to find the proper set up to bring out the best in Grados.

True statement!
