Stock K1000 here - too scared to re-cable them just yet. If I do, Alex at APS gets to do it.

Noticed the so call accentuated highs come and goes depending on the recording. Mine is stock cable amplified with SET (Shanling MC-30), can be magical with the right recording.

Stock cable and pigtail here, but my pair has been hardwired (to the VC posts) with the PCB removed and no rear grills.

Using 300B amplification in conjunction with a TVC. Also using solid core copper ICs. No etch or harshness whatsoever.

Which 300B amp do you use? What's TVC?

It's an amp built by a guy named Gabriel Velez. It is a bit different from many 300B amps in that it uses DC on the filaments instead of AC. This is considered a bit taboo when it comes to 300B amps but makes for a very quiet amp.(something that is rather welcome when using very revealing headphones) it is also SS rectified unlike the majority.

A TVC stands for Transformer Volume Control. I would suggest doing a search on Google as there is a ton of info about them and would explain it far better than I can. Mine is an Electra-Print PVA.

vvanrij...hey why don't you bump the Phonitor thread with a review of the Phonitor/ K1000 sound! Would be great to read your thoughts on the pairing...

Might do that if I have time, the phonitor deserves a good review, but I'm not that good of a writer tbh, I can give it a shot if there is enough interest for it.
