Every headphone and transducer has a transfer function. Unless a headphone has an EQ network, you're hearing the "raw sound" as reproduced through it.

years ago when I was into the beyers (just got my 600 ohm 990 then), I was really tempted by an auction of two pairs of DT48. Starting bid was less than $50, and they did not sell.

They probably go for much more now. Just like all the ortho phones on ebay.

checked ebay.... they are averaging $300 now?

ouch.

Those days are over , I will be looking to buy some more as backup pairs
off ebay when they pop up , and Kool Bubba Ice seems to hoarding the DT48's as well ...

I was hoping to do pretty much what Uncle Erik said. I'd buy a beat up pair with a broken cable for cheap, put RCA connectors so the cable is replaceable, and make earpads and a headband. But now that there are about 5 very positive reviews, even a beat up pair would be around $70, I'm guessing.

i guess i'll check back when you and kool bubba ice are done hoarding multiple pairs. :P

it would be interesting to compare the DT48 to the hda-200

The 25ohm versions are all yours.. I now need the 200 ohm version, & maybe the DT48s, then I'm done.

Remember though.. I paid 275/220/275.. I doubt many would pay that much for a DT48.. So it's not bad.. My last one was a good deal 125..

& I did say they sound like AM.. Not the quality mind you, but the presentation.. Thats the best way I could describe it. This is with my 48a.. The 48e is more 'normal.' in that respect.

I wouldn't recommend listening to music through those, frequency response is set to a certain standard and then the audiologist corrects it using specials tools ...Here is the frequency graph for the HDA 200 that comes with it...

No hoarding here! I might pick up a brand new DT48E to compare it to the two older ones, and maybe the A or S model. I almost feel like I should buy a new pair from Beyer just as a display of support and approval.

But my hands are off the used pairs. There are several members who would like to own a DT48, so I'm notgoing to get in the way or drive up prices.

Also, I can't remember if I mentioned it, but I created a Team DT48 a few weeks back. If you go to the Community menu, you can browse the various teams and join. It'd be great to have more members!

Ok, I shall finally be part of the DT48 club in a month or two, when I get funds, thanks to kool bubba ice. You rock!

**edit forget what i said here earlier ... I was talking nonsense and misunderstood the literature , it says that the earpieces on the dt48 A are matched to within -+1db of each other...
