Colorado High-Fi 2009 Summer Meet 7-25-09 (UPDATED DATE/LOCATION!) - Page 7

Thanks for the info. Count me in. I will likely bring info (e.g. a handout) to the meet with directions to my place and I can drive some people from the hotel if needed too as I have a Suburban. Looking forward to it

crucial, I can't wait to hear your PS1000!

I forgot to mention the Proline 2500 I'm bringing is re-cabled and dampened.

Will selling and trading be permitted or discouraged?
Definitely permitted and encouraged, if past years are an indication. Hell, we're bringing vendors -- why would they bother if they couldn't sell or trade?

I'm a little late with my gear list.
My sources are low end pioneer dvd player and sqeezebox.
I've got plenty of amps but I'll bring only a few because last time people wasn't interested to listen them. It consists of PIMETa, original millet, PPAV2 with steps, M3 with steps, SOHA (need casing), Dinalo with DIY PC (something like sigma but on bipolar transistors). If any one want to listen to amp please let me know.
Headphones are HD650 and DT990.
Also I could bring DIY switch box. It has 3 inputs and 2 outputs. A few DIY cables.
Last year meeting was kind of hectic. People was confuse with options and comparing apple and oranges. We need to choose a few disks or songs so we will be able to compare properly on players and PC. Other wise people shortchanging themselves and don't even know it. Meeting is an opportunity to listen and understand options in what need upgrading or if don't need it. Reason I'm saying it because of funny thread on DIYaudio about people loving distortion. Nothing wrong with it -really but I would like to listen to reasonably good music.
Another question about westone. I don't know yet if I need it but thinking of getting IEMs. Are they will be able to make impressions on meeting?

A switchbox would be nice to have - does it fit between amp out and 'phones? I'll also be bringing a digital (coax SPDIF) distribution amp.

Although as you experienced, meets are a difficult place to do a quality A/B/X on anything!

It got 2 pair of RCA out and 3 in. One pair out of three is cheap chinese the rest are cheap cardas ctfa (I think- don't remember) cheapest cardas.
What about choosing songs or albums for testing system? I think it will be educational for everybody. Any one got ideas? If we can listen the same song or composition on different system maybe we able to hear difference in sound if it drastic. Or may be not. And we definitely will hear difference on headphones.

I have a CD of fav's but most of my tunes are on my iPod 80gig. That should be fine for any unbalanced systems. I will also have my little Acer netbook and can burn some songs to SD if I want.

Do you want to pick a couple of amps to bring now, and change that later depending on requests? Like maybe the Millett and M3, or M3 and Dynalo?

I am bringing an iMod/Vcaps as a source to try on other systems (RCA and 1/8" out), and 3 burned CD's with test music.

Actually I would like to ask people if the want to pick the amps they interested to listen to. I'll bring dinalo because I think with upgraded PC it's a very good amp - the best in my collection. The rest is optional.

I know what my system not really a hi end. Majority of people including myself don't know limitation of their own equipment. If you listen the same good recording on different systems you will have the abilities to compare. If you became familiar with these recordings at home on yours system it will help a lot.
I would like to have meeting a little more organized. If we will be able to select a few recording what we could play on every system including players and PC I appreciate it. Probably I'll need to buy it because I don't have reference. Of cause YMMV.

I would assume that most sources at the meet will be SACD, Tape, vinyl, Wadia itransport, or PC (Flac/.wav.MP3) so bringing your own songs on a couple of those formats would probably be the best bet. I have this dorky little amp briefcase I made with mini XLR isolated plugs, but I made a mini XLR to 1/4 stereo unbalanced adapter, a mini XLR 4pin to standard female XLR rt and lt, as well a mini XLR to 1/4 mono rt and lt just in case anyone with balanced headphones wants to give it a listen.

Uhh, Last year we had a slimserver running a whole bunch of flacs ( like 60 Gigs or so) on a Wi-Fi Network, and was open to anyone. I had mine and another squeezebox (valdco's?) running off it. As far as I know it was soundly ignored. Go figure.

I'm all for comparitive testing,.. but I also want to listen to my music, the stuff I know best, so I'm not really into the idea of someone elses test CD, Especially as we all have drasitcally different tastes in music. I'm pretty sure I'd have a hard time listening to a new piece of gear objectively with music I don't know.

Plus, I don't want to spend the *whole* meet testing gear

On a side note.. hoping we have Air Conditioning this year.. last year was very warm and sweaty.
