Colorado High-Fi 2009 Summer Meet 7-25-09 (UPDATED DATE/LOCATION!) - Page 11

True story. Charging for raffle tickets is a form of gambling, and the Denver (or whatever identical town this is in) sheriff would need to sign off on it. I.E. no license by Saturday.

Of course you don't need a license if you don't charge, or if you charge only a donation fee, per CO contest rules.

I.E. someone donates however much money they want to enter the raffle, including $0. Sound good to everyone?

PHOTOS OF HOTEL TO GET ORIENTED

Asr did more legwork for the meet took some nice photos of the access to the hotel, to make it easier for people to watch out for the hotel and not miss it when driving by. If you drive past it you will end up getting onto I-70 and having to try to find a way back around.

NOTE ABOUT FREE STUFF: We will not be able to have a raffle for the Nuforce items, as we didn't register per state law; but I think it may be possible that we can have a drawing from of a list of everyone who attended the meet. This might not be as fair to people who donate voluntarily to support the meet, to have free things go to people who didn't contribute (left over donations would go to Head-Fi). I just wanted a way to encourage more people to come, and thought a raffle would be a great way to reward attendance. I know some people are even planning to give away some of their own stuff to worthy recipients, and the law can't stop that.

I don't know that there are many other ways that will comply with the law and at the same time reward those who contribute. I was thinking that another option to investigate is if everyone who donates money voluntarily can be rounded up and line up, to try to catch the gear that I throw over my shoulder, like they would a bouquet and garter at a wedding. Or maybe according to the Royal Order of the Buffalo I can be Grand PoohBah and just pick who gets the stuff (not related to me). Anyway, I would hate to send free stuff back to Nuforce if we don't have to, and I will try to sort this out.

In addition to the give-aways, Nuforce asked me to burn-in three pairs of UF-30 as demos for the meet, which I will return to Nuforce after the meet. We should have about 200 hours on all the UF-30 by next Friday.

You could give everyone thru the door a ticket to put thier name on and place in a box., and give contributers an extra ticket as a reciept for thier contribution regardless of the amount. That would give them just a little advantage over the rest without any real gambling going on.

That doesn't work, unfortunately. It gives an advantage to those who donate, which is what is prohibited. It's the same reason why every national contest has to provide a "no purchase necessary" option.

Of course, all of this is semantics. We can do whatever we please.

Count me in! Don't have any equipment that's not already on the list so I'll just help out however I can.

Just for a laugh i'm brining some older portables to try against more modern ones. Actually one of them is sounding REALLY good, but it's taking an age to charge, and another may have a completely dead LI-ION battery I'll leave them both charging over night and see what becomes of them.

In fact one of them is giving my old Karma a run for its money, which was a surprise to put it mildly. I'm pretty sure no one will guess what it is

I'll have to make a stop in rat shack tomorrow for some part and stuff it seems. darn

Umm Quick question, but what's the drinks situation so far?

One thing that I noticed in the last couple of meets is that a couple of cases of waster would be welcome. Is the hotel providing any? If not, can bring a couple or 3 cases of bottled water as my way of helping out with the costs?

Just a thought.

The hotel failed to provide sexy waitresses, though, Craig. You could help there.
