Westone UM3X announced! - Page 30

I am tempted to question this review:
Judging from his complaint of sibilance with Westone 3, he did not get the 'right fit', so as a result it is hard to tell which 'wrong' fit he got. If he got the most typical one - with a strong midbass/lower midrange hump and very strong S's (comply's do that), then his description of UM3X is something with overblown bass. But that sounds absolutely ridiculous for a stage headphone - and if Westone knows what they are doing (which they do from what is observed), he did not hear UM3X for what it's worth either!

Take this with a grain of salt though, I am interpolating from only one of the possible things he heard with Westone 3. So far his description sounds like a bassier and more refined/extended UM2.

That review would lead me to believe that UM3X could be perhaps one of the worst IEM's per dollar introduced in the past few years. The German review makes it sounds like a $379 Super Fi EB.

Among, about a dozen IEM's I have had over the years I, too, would say TFPro 10 is still the most balanced I have heard (SE530 next closest). And this is exactly what UE was trying to do with this IEM and unless my ears are poor, I'd say they succeeded. Virtually the only single thing I dislike is the somewhat veiled midrange. But it is not recessed.

Just request an exchange from my W3 to UM3X....will the impedance and sensitivity different be a problem? I'm looking an amp but can't sure as have not hear it...

anyway..which one will have more benefit from amp? high impedance or low?

Spyro, if u have the slightest opportunity to try CK100, by all meant try it. It might be the most balanced IEM, even more than TF10P.

I really like TF10P and when got my IE8, kinda disappointed by the sound signature. CK100 fix most of TF10P issues. From slight midbass hump, slight veiled/recessed mid, slight prominent high to the enormous size. But that doesnt meant TF10P is poor performer. I will ranked TF10P closely behind CK100.

Based on Flavio's review, I'm interested.

3 more days! I just hope we don't get a remake of the W3's when they were 1 1/2 yrs behind schedule. Yes, I used to check on that thread every day....

At this rate I'll receive my UMX3s before I even receive my UM-56 tips from my audiologist!

I might order some UM3X's tomorrow but with the limited info on their sound I'm kind of scared to do so. From Flavio's review it seems like they would not be well suited for metal and such. Anyone have any input?

Nobody has listened to it. You'll have to wait like the rest of us.

I would expect Westone had sent out some samples or something for people to review. Unfortunately the only one I've seen is a mini review from Flavio T. of EarphoneSolutions.

I just spent my UM3X money on two airplane tickets to CanJam (myself and my 11 yr old son). So, I don't think my UM3X review will come as soon as I had hoped.

PS: They are only marketing the UM3X to the professional audio and musician market, not the personal listening market. So, there are less review samples going out.

don't worry HPA. I'll send you my UM3X's if you send me something awesome to borrow.

on another note - almost $400 and they only come with Comply tips? What the? Anyone willing to send me some alternative tips, like W3 tips that don't work for them?

If I can't score my own UM3X I could probably loan you my Westone 3 in order to try your UM3X. I need to PM Ken at ALOAudio because they are on loan with him right now. I really do miss them and am not really using my IE8, but I am using my Westone ES3X or Phonak more while the W3 are away.

they're using um2 casing right? so maybe we can just experiment with tips that fit on the um2.
