Attack Force Z.

Fictional but grim account of the real Australian special forces unit that operated in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

"The Cooler", starring William Macy and Alec Baldwin....one of the best Vegas movies I've seen. William Macy is one of the unlikeliest leading men ever, but manages to pull it off well. I have an entirely different perspective on Baldwin's acting abilities after seeing this movie. He plays the nasty, old-style mob casino manager perfectly. I believe he was nominated for an academy award for this movie. I didn't catch her name, but the main female star reminds me of Sharon Stone, and without going overboard, is hot, hot, hot, in some of the scenes.

I think Alec Baldwin is kind of overlooked as an actor because he's also so good looking. He was great in Glengarry Glen Ross, The Hunt for Red October, The Getaway and Miami Blues (god, what a nasty picture) but he has been in a bunch of lousy movies. And I still think he was one of the best guest ever on Saturday Night Live. His show was hysterical. So, I've been meaning to check out The Cooler.

I watched "Castle of Blood" last. A French horror film. For some damn reason the company that re-released it decided to add black bars at the top and bottom of the screen for a letterboxed effect. That would have been nice if they had letterboxed the film! All they did was cut off the top and bottom of the picture. What the f....!!!!!!

Anyway, a good film. A nice subtle horror film. Highly atmosphereic. Best of all: Barbara Steele! Mainly bouyed by great B&W photography. I've never been so creeped out by shadows. I jumped one time at the dumbest thing, just because we follow the hero around by candlelight for so long it was like being trapped in a spooky house.

"Win a date with Tad Hamilton"
Thought it was going to be stupid, but there was nothing else to watch at the video store so I gave it a chance.

Laughed my ass off
Very surprised!
Go rent it.

My Bodyguard - Great little movie, even though the ending is very predictable.

"Girl With A Pearl Earring"...is a story about the lives behind one of VerMeer's paintings of the same name...ca 1665 AD, OUTSTANDING!!! (but only if you are interested in that sort of thing). Every scene has the look of a Vermeer.

If you were to simply pause the show at nearly any time, you would have a Wide Screen, High Def, VerMeer to beautify your room.

I know that I will be viewing this movie many times.

All you teen men will fall in love...

All you Women will sigh and cry...

Most old men will "remember when"...or wish you were young again...

4 3/4 (out of five) Stars.

Regards
