GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!

I picked up my first pair 2 weeks ago. The left ear was DOA so Bill overnighted a new pair with a return label.

2nd pair shows up with a bad mic/clicker (iPhone model) Bill again overnights a second pair with a return label.

Seeing as how good these sound, and I mean GOOD!, coupled with the super CS I don't care if I have to go through 5 pairs. They are worth more than their asking price.

Kudos also to Flavio at Earphone Solutions he and they are great to deal with.

Cracks in my black PFE

Bought them in Bonn, Germany from one of the dealers in March 09.

Cracks similar to ones reported by several other users.

Also having the cable cracking near the joint to the connector.

Have given the unit to the dealer for replacement. Waiting to hear back from them. Also have sent details to Thomas Gless at Phonak Germany.

Well, it finally happened...in Switzerland of all places!!!

I have been traveling in Europe for the past four weeks and am currently in Basel. I had actually not used my PFEs much the past two weeks, but I got them out yesterday to use and noticed that the black rubber cable had partially freyed about an inch or so from the right earpiece, exposing the wires beneath.

I bought my PFEs last Fall 2008 in the USA. I have owned them for less than a year.

The cable that bends around the ear is SO THIN that I've always known it would be the first to break.

So I am not sure what will happen next. That right earpiece is now literally hanging by a thread. So I suppose it is time to think about a replacement. Not sure I will stick with Phonak unless they come out with a new, improved version.

I have "babied" them over the past 10 months or so. I like them very much. Sad to see them break. But I suppose all things do.

In the end, I guess they went full circle. Born in Switzerland. Broken in Switzerland.

Tomorrow morning I head for Berlin.

I've just got round to updating the list on the front page

If possible, please can those who haven't decided on what action to take yet update their posts when they have decided? It's a bit worrying to see the same faults still cropping up, hopefully when the new materials are used, there'll be no more defects. Thanks for pics aTOOL.

The mic on my replacement pair stopped working yesterday and I noticed this tiny cracks again . However, I'll try to wait for the for the new version and hope everything will be better then. Let's hope they last that long.

No updates as yet from Phonak nor the Dealer.

No response for my original as well as reminder mail to Phonak, Germany.

Strange!

Third time is not a charm!!

Well this is my THIRD pair PFEs that have gone south!!, the cable on the left earpiece has cracked due to the stiff cheap plastic used. The wire is exposed and it's only a matter of time before there is a short. I am PM'ing Wbrownie about a refund, this is just insane! I need my iems to last more than a couple months

This is truly sad that there are no updates as of yet, and obviously owners are STILL getting faulty units. Phonak may have good customer service in handling all these issues, but apparently they don't care about updating their product and fixing the core of the problem. Very strange indeed.

Let us know what happens and if wbrownie gets back to you. He doesn't seem to have updated the thread with any new information for a long time

aTOOL- have you had a response from anyone yet about your pair?


Chris- the last I remember was that the materials were going to be upgraded for 'version 2'... but that doesn't help anyone who has a faulty pair from the earlier batches. It also doesn't help that no one from Phonak seems to be responding anymore. That can't be doing much for customer confidence.

Yep Chris, serious QC Issues!!, Im done with Phonak and PFE, nice sounding, but, if they can't last more than months what good are they? They do have a good exchange policy, but until they have a re- design and change materials it seems there are going to be multiple failures Which is a huge hassle.

Lol!! yes Jules, 3 pairs broken is even beyond my crappy luck LOL!! Oh, and my last pair was supposed to be from the 'new' batch that had better materials ???

Yeah, I'm sorry you have had to go through three sets. It's beyond serious QC issues.. it's a complete failure on their part to the customer in getting out reliable product for retail sale. Being employed in product design/mass production, I can tell you that we would NEVER release a product unless we've determined that it'll pass our QC testing, and is truly ready for years of enjoyment by the customer.

As a former owner and PFE appreciator, this really is sad news. Seems to be going on forever. I originally sold them because I favored the W3 and subsequently the UM3X, and wasn't using them much. But based on this ongoing QC issue, Phonak just doesn't seem to get it. Too bad, because it is an enjoyable product for many owners.

Some have called the PFE flavor of the month, etc., and based on SQ, I didn't agree. But on the flip side, the company got plenty of positive viral marketing here because of the SQ. If they eventually fail, they have no one to blame but themselves.

When I spoke to Mr. Brownie in early August he mentioned that the "New" 112 would be available in late September and that the 121 sometime in October.
All to be made by a different manufacturer - sorry Bill if I'm saying things I shouldn't.

Look. I know it's a pain in the ass, and easy to lose respect for Phonak, but consider that this is their first foray into the IEM market, coupled with the crappy manufacturer things may seem hopeless.

But considering their strong 2 year warranty and the fact that they do respond positively, and the phones sound is top-notch in the $150 price range you still can't go wrong.

And to be clear I have no affiliation with the company at all. I'm just a customer.
